If you want birds in your yard a great tree to have is the Mountain Ash. The orange berries attract birds of all types, including rare birds from Russia which somehow end up here in BC.
The people I talked to said they started each tree out from seed and lined their entire yard, I didn't formally count but I'm going to guess 18 trees, evenly spaced all around the perimeter of their yard.
Bohemian Waxwings
Robins
Starlings (invasive species, yes I know.)
Varied Thrush
Juncos
and the now famous, to birders and photographers, that is, Fieldfare.
I may have room for one Mountain Ash if I sacrifice a view down the street and am thinking on it.

I prefer to plant for butterflies and bees. I may consider getting peach and cherry though. Although husband is dead set against more trees. :/
I haven't failed until I quit.

It feels like spring already! A few more days of this and it may be time for garden clean-up

Did you get a catalogue from them yet?
Oh, and I've got eleven Snow Drops popped out and ready to bloom fully soon.

No catalogue, just been poking around the website. They have a lot of interesting items.
I think I may try some different squashes, this year.
You have Snowdrops ready to bloom?

Eleven of them. I was hoping for better light today to photograph them, just a tad more sun anyways.

The redwing blackbirds have been chirruping their spring songs here (I love that sound), with plenty of robins (did they stay all winter?), quail very active as are the redtail hawks, and last night, the great horned owls were calling just outside my burrow door.
Wish all winters were so easy as this has been, so far.
I wonder if I can find a bit of garden area to rent this year? I will look into it after I return from Costa Rica, a trip I should have done last year to escape long, bitterly cold winter.

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Looking for real soil, stone free or reasonably so. You know that hard packed gravel on the sides of backroads in Omak area (wink, nudge)? Well, that was Stoney Acres. A hard row to hoe. Blood from stones. Got stoned. Stoney Stare.
It is only because of Miracle Grow and that I am such a knowledgeable and magnificent gardener that it produced anything besides pebbles. (No blushing here).
