Gradual slope like 1:3, do I need a geogrid?

Post by mmt »

Good morning ya'll,
My big/small question is do I need a geogrid for a gradual slope, I think it's 1:3 slope(or 3:1 however applied to it's slope rate) ? If so, what type and where to buy?

Thanks!

Hmmm. Hard to tell, but sounds like you're building a retaining wall.

The need for geogrid (or equivalent) isn't really influenced by the natural grade. Moreso by the type of wall you're building, the height of the wall, and the soil conditions. Without knowing that information, nobody will be able to answer your question.

Is your slope 3:1 or 1:3 ?

Therefore, for every 3 feet on the horizontal does the grade drop 1 foot, or for every 1 foot on the horizontal does it drop 3 feet?

As stated by TylerM4, you will also have to account for what is above and the moisture content of the soil and run off.

If there is enough land behind, you may be able to terrace the land.

It is hard to say, but one thing for sure, don't go by what I or any other post on this website.
