Our garlic scapes are out!
We picked a few today and the wife made a rub to go on the steaks tonight, scapes, garlic, olive oil and basil. Put it in a blender and now it's waiting for the BBQ.

You skip over the carrot transplanting like Peter Pan.Babba_not_Gump wrote: ↑Jun 2nd, 2024, 4:10 pm Our garlic scapes are out!![]()

Tell me more …did you separate each carrot and plant? Or did you thump down the pot of sprouts without separating? Are they alive? Or are they dead as doornails?
Your fan club still waiting to hear

They were alive and upright this morning when I watered them. In hind sight that sure wasn't necessary.
I cut a slit about three inches deep in the ground, stuck them in one at a time, far enought apart then pressed the dirt back against them, gently.
Easy peasy.
Should I go down tomorrow for more needless watering I'll get another picture.
Oh, the green onion I planted yesterday is already showing signs of new growth. Amazing.

Well, I decided to replace the plants the quail got. I went to the Greenery, and there was not a tomato to be seen. I was lamenting the fact to a staffperson there, and she said that Bylands took over Better Earth on KLO, and they and Art Knapp's might have some. She also strongly suggested I check out Kel-Lake Greenhouses in Lake Country. I decided to do that.
Dog friendly (wish I'd brought mine, but the Greenery isn't)
Good size, decent selection.
They have tomatoes still! Catsumi, they even had Black Krims! And the size of the plants is nice - even rather larger than I usually get. Pricing was good - I think about the same as the others I was considering going to. Plus, unusual varieties. I ended up impulse-buying a cherry tomato called "Indigo Fireball" - which sounds quite interesting :)
And they had Old German and Mortgage Lifter, and Brandywine. So I went to replace two tomatoes; and bought five.
They are hardening off on the deck. I think I hope to plant on Wednesday morning.

I stopped at a plant yard sale on Lawson Ave and was blown away by the selection of everything.
Also bought two yellow hibiscus plants at another yard sale. $5 bux ea.

Garden box too small this year to plant Black Krims.
With all the space devoted to dog parks when there is such high demand for garden plots, I cannot understand. To some, another place for dogs to fight and krap is super-important.
To others, a place to grow food items is also very important. Seniors, who've always grown their own veggies and hope to reduce food costs; many young peeps just learning how to plant seed and care for the plants; and the middling ones who just would like to grow their own tomatoes…all of these people are squeezed into small boxes, if they are lucky enough to find them, sincerely would appreciate more space for gardening.
Still, more dog parks annually.

Bought four of the much covented metal raised garden beds today. They are clean and neat, 12 feet long, 2 feet wide and just tall enough not to require too much dirt. Now I've got somewhere to plant the Black Krim's I started from seed. All 30 of them.

Dogs need the area to run. And yes, poop. Good owners pick up after theirs. I will side-eye and judge anyone who doesn'tCatsumi wrote: ↑Jun 3rd, 2024, 6:18 pm Garden box too small this year to plant Black Krims.![]()

Dogs need the socializing (I really need to take my pup out more).
I think it would be great to have more community garden plots too, and less of the empty greenspace that rarely gets used. Any number of small parks around Rutland could spare some space for gardens, and I bet other parks could as well. On Hartman, the community garden is beside the dog park (and the sports fields).
As for getting your Black Krim fix, sounds like you need to get QK to hook you up XD

I bought the last four in one style at Princess Auto. They have other styles too. I'm seeing them everywhere on the gardening sites on social media. I started with free 2x8s that were used as cement forms. Took many years for them to rot out and I still have three that are doing ok. We used heavy plastic to line them and it worked for a long time. Until the inevitable happened.
Right now we are clearing out a space which needs lots of prep before we can even think of putting said metal garden beds up, plus we have to do a trip to see the hog wire across the lake and see if we're going to make arches this year.

Keep us posted!
I'm hoping tomorrow will warm up a bit so I can get my plants in the ground.

Plants, planted.

We finally got our veggy garden planted. Between crappy weather and no time it's been a struggle.
Weeds have been doing very well.
