Re: Gardens 2024: Flowers/Vegetables/Bushes/Trees
I will try it next year. I suspect our peppers began to fail when the soil became played out but I didn't put it altogether. We're really like the Black Gold product too. Our double row of Black Krim is extremely healthy, or so it seems. and they were started from seed, late, and got planted, late.
Beans are starting to climb the wire arch.

My peas were horribly bitter so I need to tear them all out. I will look for a proven sweeter type next year. Suggestions?
My beans are flowering, climbing, and starting to produce
And last night I was wandering in the garden (picked 2 peppers and a cuke) and got stung
On my leg. The (bee?) flew up my loose capri pants to sting just below my knee.

No pea suggestions, but I started early and pulled all the plants before the first heat wave.
We are getting Sungold's coming in. Two Black Krim! And nothing else. I started cukes very late.
Sorry about the bee sting ,that hurts!

Thanks - I got an Rx and it's now healing. I'm mid-level allergic. Not anaphylactic, but also don't shake it off easily. I get swelling, redness, and blisters and the spot grows until I get on a corticosteroid (prednisone - but it works). I didn't get the Rx until Saturday, the affected area was the size of my palm when I started it.
My tomatoes are just now starting, peppers are coming along and hopefully I'll get some cukes :/

Next year we're doing peppers in pots as you are, with the Black Gold. Can't believe it took so long to discover.

There is a house near mine, where the people have the yard covered in 5-gallon buckets, filled with tomato plants and they look amazing, better than mine.

Bman did that with cukes. Could have supplied all of us with the produce out of that.

I picked our first tomato today. A couple of days early as it'll be very tempting for for someone to grab an' go.
Official name for it is Cuore Di Bue. Seeds came from a friend who brought them over from Italy.

Is it flavourful? Looks very interesting.

Well it was the first tomato of the season so yes, it had flavour. Not real strong but very nice. And on a scale of 0 to 5, acidity would be 1. Very little juice and seeds. Next tomato I'll have to save the seeds.

Looks good.
Seed saving is an art. We saved Black Krim seeds and have 18 BK tomato plants out there now. Harvested four tomatoes from them so far but we started very late. Got most in the Yellow Bag Black Gold soil product and if I have it right, we will be swimming in Black Krim by September.

The gardens are loving this cool period. Nothing beats rain, no amount of garden hosing makes up for what we had today.

My garden hose put out more water in ten minutes this morning then all the rain that fell in Kamloops, i.e. not a drop.
I'll be watering again tomorrow. But I did see some wet Kelowna streets on the news.

Today, at long last for weeks in dry conditions, we in Vernon finally got a good, deep rain last nite. Did the garden wonders.Babba_not_Gump wrote: ↑Aug 16th, 2024, 6:56 pm My garden hose put out more water in ten minutes this morning then all the rain that fell in Kamloops, i.e. not a drop.

I have planted new lettuce seeds, not Romaine as in spring, but a big leaf, almost like a rose opening type of lettuce….and carrots, of course. Cucs coming on like gangbusters. Love my salads.

My beans are starting to produce!
Quite a lot later than is normal, but it is happening. Now I just have to make sure hubby & kids harvest produce while I'm gone for the next week and a bit. I will do a harvest tonight, and then pester them by text after I leave tomorrow.
