Pretty sure a .380 is worthless against a bear .

I was told when I applied for a carry permit in addition to my "free miners licence".

I know 2 different remote outfitting guide/lodge owners and 1 trap line (100sq.miles) holder
that all have and do carry, legally.
Not just anywhere. There are strict restrictions limiting when and where.

One being it must be within their set land boundaries.

Another that I believe may carry a side arm in the wilderness was a trapper. A trapper fellow many years ago ( late 70's early 80's) up behind Summerland used to carry a .22 revolver when trapping martin and what other furry little things he trapped.
Allan, I suspect the firearms fellow you were dealing with just wanted to confirm you did not plan on packing a .38 or something similar when performing whatever you were doing. The larger magnums may save ones life, a 9mm perhaps not.

I was never really concerned about bears but was about cougars when traipsing about.

Okay, I have no knowledge of their circumstances and permits. I will not argue with you.

Please don't take it as an argument, far from it.
Did you get a carry permit when you had your free miners permit? Think that is how my brother got his. A friend got one being a RPF and was timber cruising around Bella Coola at the time.( .44 mag)

I used to do all of those things, and I was very good at it.

I used to be a 100/10X with a .22
Shotgun....I was a consistent 94 on the trap range. I forget my skeet scores.
For the rifle, it was a .270 and I used to shoot nickels at 75 yards and briquettes at 100 yards.
I was at 85% on the combat range with a .357 magnum, and 95+/100 on the regular range.

I used my own steel targets out in the bush. I haven't shot anything in over 20 years. I sure miss the the recoil.

To answer your other question, I don't have an answer for you, sorry.

All this talk about firearms has just brought back so many memories, and I miss it.

The COVID-19 outbreak coupled with fears about more restrictive gun legislation has fuelled a spike in firearm and ammunition sales, several dealers said this week.

Buyers, they say, are stocking up while they can.

"We are seeing a surge in sales," said Ross Faulkner, owner of The Gun Dealer in McAdam, N.B., which bills itself Atlantic Canada's largest firearms store. "When things get tough, it's certainly a feeling of security, especially when you're dealing with uncertain times like we're dealing with now."
