Large part of my optimism is Hofer is looking solid in net after taking over for Daws.

Yeup . He looks really good in there .

A real part of my pessimism is how good Sweden and Finland have been playing over the last 3 or 4 years .

they got GAME ! ..

Makes the whole tourney worth it IMO .

I was expecting a closer game by Finland.
Way to go Team Canada :yahoo:
Hopefully our top scorer isn't out against Russia, that would be a costly loss to our lineup.

Bronze Sweden vs Finland

Gold medal game... Canada vs Russia

Let's hope this continues to be a "pay back year".

They were outed by the FINs last year and suffered their worst defeat to the Russian this year. They've soundly beat the FINs, hope they can pay back the Russians.

The irony, Canada was out of the medals last year and finished 6th overall. The USA are 6th this year.

The seeding apparently goes like this.....

The top 4 teams will be 1st to 4th. Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Bronze looser. Then it goes the ranking of the remaining teams on their standings at the end of the Preliminary rounds, before the ¼ finals. Points, Plus/Minus, Goals.

5 - SUI 9 pts +7 19 goals
6 - USA 8 pts +14 17 goals
7 - CZE 4 pts -6 12 goals
8 - GER 3 pts -10 9 goals
9 - SVK 3 pts -14 8 goals
10 - KAZ 0 pts -14 7 goals

Seems strange that GER was 8th above SVK, but GER and KAZ being the last in their respective groups play the relegation round.

Elimination Round goes as follows (top 4 teams in each Group)
A1 plays B4 (Sweden vs Czech Republic)
A2 plays B3 (Switzerland vs Russia)
A3 plays B2 (Finland vs USA)
A4 plays B1 (Slovakia vs Canada)

So the teams that don't make it to elimination round automatically end up in relegation.

That's correct.

My list is the standings for the 6 teams that don't make the metal rounds.

You said it is strange Germany is playing in relegation, so I explained why there are.

World Juniors elimination round aka Quarter Finals

I understood why, just thought it was strange, or perhaps a better word, ironic, that in the full field, with the IIHF rules, the two bottom teams don't play in the relegation round, the bottom team in each group do.

I think they need another rule, a better tune when a penalty is called
