Why would you want to elect any of them? This council needs to have every councillor thown out when their terms end. These people are so simplistic and developer oriented that they care nothing for the average person. Their view is get as much for as little as possible and if people don't all conform to their view of the world the enact a law that forbids it.
These people have destroyed the Regatta, Wakefest, Snowfest and even boast about saving money for not having fireworks for things like new years and Canada Day celebrations, yet they want to spend 140 thousand to celebrate the opennng of the bridge.
After they ruin all these events, they want to shut down our streets for apple triathalon and other events that benefit the image of the city and they want to inconvenience the locals so their friends can use our streets to make money. I would support the triathalon if they supported other events that bring in visitor dollars and allow for some fun without having everything bylawed to death.
What we need is a council that understands there is a time and a place for everyone to have fun, and not just old farts like myself and polyanna families that do everything the way they do in the town of perfect. No I am not saying we should let wild uncrontrolled drunks roam the streets, but they should let the carnival atmosphere run its course with basic enforcement, some say the law should look the other way a bit using only enough supervision to keep control of the situation

Is she the idiot who says she prayed that girls wouldn't get raped at wakefest? She sounds like a full blown whack job, I say dump her. I just saw a picture of her, I've got 5 bucks that says she used to be a man!

And there should be nothing wrong with letting drunks roam the streets once in awhile, ala Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It might be fun to do that once in a while.
Don't get so mad, it's just my opinion.

IMO the subject should have read, Do not re-elect Kelowna City Council. This town needs some major attractions. Not only for the tourists but for its inhabitants as well.

I have heard for many years how bad city council is, yet they get re-elected every year! Why is that, do not that many people actually vote?

i think the re-election issue is because of the demographic in kelowna. say for instance a 27 year old man wanted to put his hat in the ring. and the town has a higher percentage of people 50 years or older. the odds are very stacked against the young guy because a wife from the 50 something crowd is gonna get all those geriatric votes. because that generation actually does vote for things. meanwhile a mojority of the 20's crowd says whatever to voting and mute their generations voice to change things.

not to mention what a beast politics at any level are. i thought pretty highly of stockwell day and he seemed like he had good intentions when he was the leader. but ottawa chewed him up and spat him out. its a real tribute to his resolve that he is still in the thick of things.

and lets not have any illusions. the past mentality is ingrianed so deep in council that i doubt you will ever see any progressive change from anyone who gets elected at any level.

I can't find anything on it, but I do remember that Gran missed a ton of council meetings and had to be reminded by the mayor that she was suppose to show up for council. Does anyone else remember that?

Most of the population of Kelowna is too old to find their way to the poll station without escorted help.

We as young people need to start some sort of rally!!!
lets all get together and vote - like in the US "Vote or Die" - you need to make it cool to vote - you need to bring young people together, to become aware, to become educated and realize its not just for old people to vote or care about these things!!
i think it should start in highschool - we NEVER learned about that kind of stuff in school and i wouldn't have thought to ask my parents about something i didnt know enough about to ask about...if kids are taught at a young age how important it is to vote then maybe we would have a voice and be taken seriously!
if we just keep asking to have the bars stay open late and don't have a legit arugument to back it up with it won't do anything! they need to respect us and actually listen to our reasons behind wanting the bar open until 5 am!! i could careless if the bars are open or not - as written before the bars here suck anyways and its just a bunch of drunk puffed up idiots! the point is that we want a voice and want to be take seriously. we want something to do!!! This is SO much bigger then just having the bars open later -
There is also nothing to look forward to in the summer except sitting at the few beaches we actually have access to because of the 10 million $$ homes taking up all the beach space!
by taking away wakefest, thunderfest, motocross, FUN in general what else are young people supposed to do except go out at night...you can't tell them not to drink or fight or make noise or apparently not to drink and drive because they just do it anyways! you need more options...

The old kooks are basically telling the youth "this town isn't for you or the poor folk, so gettahellouttta Dodge".

They're saying, stay at home to take your drugs, party, get trashed, get stoned out of your gourd or pilled up til your eyes go pop, but just don't spoil our peace and quiet and don't do it near us.

Exactly! - they want the poor, young and homeless to just disappear and stay out of the way so they can enjoy the quiet peace of kelowna
