Re: Sharon Shepherd - Mayoral Candidate
Yes, they all voted to remove the covenant originally in order to protect more park land than the original covenant does. However, once this was lost through court another vote (closed) took place as to whether or not to appeal the court decision. The city had spoke, the court had spoke, so certain members likely did not want to appeal this decision (yes, we will never know for sure who voted what at this point unless council votes to release this) but they were beaten in the voting (could have been 5-4) and thus, they are appealing based on majority. Looking at the reactions of council and their histories in these roles, it really does not take much to discover the clear lines between council members, and who likely voted for what in this closed mtg.

Let's get Walter Gray back, at least I had faith in that guy as a mayor. Sharon should just go back to figuring out how the windmills work in Holland. She waisted our money before and she will do it again. You'd think that someone else would be wanting to run in the race but i guess not! If it were a choice between Andre and Sharon I wouldn't even bother voting. Why is she even a Mayoral Candidate when there are no other candidates?? Ridiculous!!

I don't even understand 'think about it's' response so I can't comment. And Gray- are you serious? Talk about an in-the-pocket of the developers man who put as little effort into his job as he was able to get away with. If only we can get rid of Andre and Brian, there could be a very different outcome on a number of social/environmental/cultural associated issues this time around- however, now that the other 4 incumbents are gone there's still a good chance that the swing vote will finally go in the other direction if 2 of those 4 spots can be taken up by socially conscious individuals.

The boys world of Federal or Provincal Governments Hear only those that are louder then them? I believe that Kim Ouellette has a voice that will be heard.
Seriously! Think About It!
ps. This Election is about the right person for Mayor, not there appearance!
and there are still two canditates.
pss. Just a thought to put out there!
Is?The Kelowna Daily Courier on Sharon Shepards' campain photo expense list? Once again one mayoral candidate in any of those forum pics they just seem to squeeze her in. Isn't Ms. Ouellette sitting next to her. "Interesting don't you think!
I could get some backlash with this but what the heck!

Last week was the 2008 "Business Excellence Awards" Hosted by our own Chamber of Commerce. I was very interested to see our Mayor was not present! I would think the business community of Kelowna, would be of interest to our civic Government. A shame to see our business community not supported by our local government considering most of the people are employed by the small business community.

Wow another election is upon us! Aren't we lucky. Please someone remind me to play the lottery. I am a young, married woman who works very hard for a rather small wage even though I am relatively well educated; however, I have many questions for all the candidates: Why should I vote for you? What will you do for me? How about attracting business to Kelowna that pay well, treat their employees with respect and believe in positive growth as well as building co-operative housing for the working poor. If you can do this you will have my vote. I am not looking for a chicken in every pot approach aka Sharon Shephard's platform, but a candidate who can get out of the beautiful, amazing Kelowna mindset as many citizens are like me and are struggling to keep their heads above water.
PS
Do I smell burnt chick, chick...chicken!

I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests. I am an old cantankerousness grump that happens to be very opinionated.

Seriously, Shepard wasn't at the business excellence awards? Wonder what she was doing she couldn't be there? That's pretty bad. Really bad. Many of the businesses of the Chamber of Commerce are some of the biggest employers in this town. It ain't cheap to run a business in this town. Rents are sky high. The hassles people go through to improve their businesses, get permits, etc., etc., is unbelievable. She should have been there.

I wonder if this "great mayor" has any idea how important affordable housing is.

None of the incumbents attended because there was an All Candidates Forum the same night as the Business Excellence Awards.

IMO. Not a clue and as far as I see no plans to change. Also no plans to get industry to come to Kelowna. Just more low pay service work. As things change they stay the same.
