Re: Charlie Hodge - Council Candidate
Charlie is a good fit for council what we need is some new people with experience that can bring some sanity to the present situation, things at city hall are broken. This is true for the senior staff as well

Re: Charlie Hodge - Council Candidate
Well, hello, hello. I received an email from a friend telling me about his site and I finally logged on. I hope to anwer all of the questions over the next day or two and I'm sorry I did not know about this forum earlier.
Anyway, I'm here to answer whatever I can but invite you to all check out my website at http://www.charliehodge.ca - especially the 'testimonials' and some of the questions and answers under 'Issues'. Also 'Listen to Charlie' is me talking about a few issues.
Thanks for the support by the way!

Re: Charlie Hodge - Council Candidate
First off thanks to 'damngrumpy, Bsuds, leroibrown,Chmmr' for checking out my website. I keep adding to it every day with questions I answer or surveys completed.
So far I've received 14 surveys from groups or organizations. We have, or will have, some eight All Candidates forums or meet and greets. Last election (I came in ninth out of 33) we had three or four forums and perhaps five surveys - so it is much different this time round.
I have also noticed that there is less camaraderie this time.
Stefzaz and Iamwoman, thanks for the comments. If you have a minute or two check out my website http://www.charliehodge.ca please.
Soma, I agree that LEEDS is far from terrific and largely more smoke and mirrors, however it is something we can use to build on as far as setting criteria for builders. I believe we can afford to be very picky in what, where, and how we build - and only allow world class development plans for future projects in Kelowna, downtown or otherwise.
We are one of the most desirable places to live in the world. If developers do not want to build to the very highest of standards (not just regarding architecture but also with human and environmental health at the forefront) - then they can build somewhere else.

Re: Charlie Hodge - Council Candidate
I was born and raised in Kelowna and moved away when my then-husband relocated to the Vancouver area. I have known Charlie for most of his life. He any my brother were best friends. Charlie was one of my mom's many "sons" and an integral part of our family.
Honesty, compassion, integrity, reliable are just a few attributes I associate with Charlie. He is the most caring, giving and generous person I know. He is one of the few people I know of who have a deep-rooted love for the city and passionately cares about what happens to Kelowna.
As far as I am concerned, Charlie Hodge is an asset to the community and the people of Kelowna should be so lucky as to have him represent them as a member of city council.
If I was living there I would be the first one in line to cast my vote for Charlie Hodge and I urge anyone out there who cares as deeply for the city to vote for him also.

Please list 5 of your top priorities, and how you would deal with each issue if it were completely up to you.

Re: Charlie Hodge - Council Candidate
Thanks for the questions. I am off door knocking until mid evening and will anwer you in more detail on Sunday. Meanwhile my website gives you a lot of info. http://www.charliehodge.ca if you would be so kind as to give it a look.
Thanks
Meanwhile ... my goals include
Returning trust and accountability to city hall.
Create a cleaner, more efficient transportation network
Create a truly safe, healthy, sustainable city.
Proper planning and guidelines to deal with growth issues
Help complete a strong OCP during the upcoing review process
Restructure council roles to make elected members more directly connected to residents, service clubs, business, emergency services ... through portfolios and regular 'meet and greet' sessions to discuss issues.
Increase number of firefighters to safe level. (A disaster waiting to happen).
Thanks

Charlie Hodge, Hi, Are you hosting Night of the Arts again this year?
Would it be too much if I talked up your book, Golly Gee, It's Me: The Howie Meeker Story?
You've got my vote in the bag, looking forward to the big day.

Regardless of who "wins" an election, they always are up against a Silent Elite. Do you believe the extreme poor who voted for Trump ever thought their non-profit support would be slashed right out from under them?

Yes I am hosting the Night of the Arts fundaiser (for The Bridge Youth and Family Services programs for youth and young families with issues and needs). It is this Thursday Nov.13 from 7-11:30 at the Kelowna Community Theatre (Doors open at 6 for the 75 silent auction items). Nine bands are playing including Cruzeros, Sleddogs Olga Osipova, Deb Stone, Ari Neufeld ....
I will miss the candidate's forum on water, however the concert was booked three months ago so...
Thanks for the comment and hopefully see lots of you on Thursday night.

Re: Charlie Hodge - Council Candidate
Hi Charlie,
Can you clarify a comment for me? On the Okanagan Racing survey you responded in this manner:
2) Do you feel events like the Knox Mountain Hillclimb and the Apple Triathlon are a benefit to Kelowna and would you support more organized racing events like these?
Yes, absolutely. More in fact.
On the Castanet survey, you mentioned that you do not support the closing of public areas for "FOR PROFIT" concerts and sporting events. While I realize that the Hillclimb operates on a break-even budget, I view the response with a bit of caution.
Can you clarify if you do indeed support events like the Knox Mtn Hillclimb?
Thank you

Re: Charlie Hodge - Council Candidate
Yes, Mr. Hodge is a relative newcomer to Kelowna, but who isn't? He did live here when he was younger, and has a number of years experience as a Councillor in Nanaimo, so he's as qualified as anyone I suppose.
I'd like to see some new faces on Council, absolutely. Council was pretty predictable.
What's most interesting, though, is the recent Castanet survey that compared 5500 voter's answers with the Council candidate's answers on 20 questions. The incumbents scored at 57% or less when comparing their responses to the general public's responses. However, some of the new candidates running this time scored in the 70% range! Does this mean our Council incumbents are that out of touch about what the "average" voter / resident wants or thinks?
I'll be having fun on election day and throwing my votes behind some new faces that will mix things up. :spinball:

Re: Charlie Hodge - Council Candidate
I would say Charlie has recently returned to Kelowna, not that he is a newcomer. I am not sure of exact numbers but I believe he has lived in Kelowna for 35 some years of his life. That alone should make his residency a non issue. There are people running in Penticton, for example, that live in Summerland, and people running that have been in the community for a total of 5 years of their life. I am leary of those candidates.curiousone wrote:Yes, Mr. Hodge is a relative newcomer to Kelowna, but who isn't? Mr. Hodge is very qualified.
Good luck tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay I was hosting a fundraiser concert for kids yesterday and got home very late. I was burned out all day. Just got on castanet. To clarify I meant I do not support the closing of places like City Park to the local residents and then charging them to go into their park for events such as Regatta, or closing off access to the waterfront from folks completely. I am a huge supporter of the Hil climb and always have been. Knox Mtn Park is a different kettle of fish. I would not oppose the hillclimb event unless, for some strange reason, it turned into a total nightmare. I was one of the organizers and promoters of having music and local bands playing in our parks again so obviously I support functions like that. I just think the City Park and water front should (in general) remain open to the residents.
Not sure if that helps

Re: Charlie Hodge - Council Candidate
Curiousone, onestop is correct. I was born in Penticton in 1955 and moved to Kelowna at age 7. I lived here most of my life except for 10 years when I lived on Vancouver Island (was on Parksville City Council from 1997-2000 ) and returned here in 2001. I ran last election here in 2005 and finished 9th.
