On his webpage, he says he has ran Advocare for the past ten years (that would make it since 1998). This is untrue. He had We Care from about 2000 to 2003 or 2004 when he changed to Advocare. (He purchased WeCare from the two ladies who had it prior to him, one which carried on in Penticton, and the other who still works with him.)

Now why would he not say anything about that, I wonder?

I think you should research your facts a little more.
Mr. Manton has been in business in Kelowna for more than 10 years. Some of his staff have worked with him at AdvoCare for that long. Mybe you are confused because of the business name change.

One of the reasons we changed our name was to more appropriately reflect the type of services that we deliver - thus the name AdvoCare Health Services. A number of our staff have been with us many, many years - some since 1991

This candidate may be worthy of a closer look.
Familiar with the company(ies) and fully aware of the name changes so do not find any credibility issue here at all.
Will be looking to what he has in mind if placed in the role of a councillor.
Again he is a business person with management skills up the wazoo who will be hopefully able to reign in the out of control management and staff in City Hall.

by the way, I didnt quote you in my last post, but I felt that it was important enough to say once again...

I've bolded parts that are the most applicable.

Yes, he has been in business in Kelowna for more than 10 years.

No his staff has not been with him at advocare for 10 years. Some of the staff were there at We Care for the times I said. I know what I am talking about because I worked there for a short time.

My understanding of the name change as described is not the full story. Maybe someone could go to We Care head office and ask, if they will tell you.

Seems like a good fellow. Can't wait to hear him speak. Lots of great ideas. Tell them what they want to hear maybe, but aren't they all. Promoting tourism means getting some summer events hopefully. We also need things for the youth of our city to keep them busy and out of trouble. With nothing for them to do it is no wonder they are getting into trouble. Like the idea of high paying jobs as this is a high cost of living city. Tell me more Johnny. I'm undecided on you but I like your campaign statement. :discodance:

Great Guy, Hard Worker, Smart, Leader by example. Anyone who gives themself up for public office and has a track record like John does for community service is worthy in my opinion of a shot at city council. I for one know he is a dedicated and committed person.
There will always be some sour grapes in the bunch. Ask yourself, how much good have I done in the world today????????

I for one would not vote for Mr. Manton. He says he is campaigning for high paying jobs due to the cost of living in Kelowna? Maybe someone should take a good hard look at how much AdvoCare and WeCare paid their staff while Mr. Manton has been in charge.

He is a decent enough man, but not a good boss. Many staff members have come and gone over the years from WeCare and AdvoCare. I agree about the name change - this needs to be investigated further as the company line is neither the real nor the full story as to what happened here.

Someone should check into his position on the homeless shelter / rehab clinic being built next to his office on St Paul St as many people and businesses in the area were very vocal in their feelings against this.

Someone should also take a very close look at how Advocare handled their takeover of local care facilities before voting for Mr. Manton.

I worked for John Manton at Advocare for about 2 years. *removed/Jo* If you ever read the classifieds, you will see that Advocare is ALWAYS hiring new staff. This is because it is such a horrible place to be that they cannot keep staff employed.

If this is how he runs his business (which is a business that is supposed to care for other people!), I would hate to see how he would be on city council.

I would never let Advocare take care of a loved one of mine, nor would I ever vote for John Manton.

John Manton will not get my vote. I had written a whole list of reasons why people should not vote for him, but this is an open forum so I will not post them. I will say that in my opinion John Manton does not care about his employees or about the residents in the facilities staffed by him and is out for profit only which I believe to be deplorable in a health care business. The fact that he states he will fight for higher wages in Kelowna is a joke. I think people should take a very close look at Mr Manton's business practices, and the way he treats his employees if they want a true picture of how he plans to represent this city. Oh and I have met MANY Advo Care employees. NONE of them have worked for him for ten years. High seniority is considered to be 4 years due to such high staff turn over rates with this company. The staff have good reason to leave.

Thanks for the info. He's off my list too. He obviously doesn't practise what he preaches.

My wife works for John Manton and with what she has told me about the way that Advocare is ran and his lack of respect and well being of his workers all I have to say is you don't want to vote for him... if he runs the city we love and live in anywhere close to the way he runs his own business we are all in trouble! *removed/Jo* voting for him would be a bad choice for the city of Kelowna!!

Thank you all for your opinions of this candidate. I think these forums show that it is good to read more than just a campaign statement and website for some other opinions sometimes. I appreciate all of your opinions, both good and bad of the candidate.
