And just for the record, it's an opinion poll, not a referendum in law.

Yes - Westbank
Please someone help me understand the ballot. If you Vote No to question one, you still get a vote on question 2?

Re: Westside Naming Referendum
No (reluctantly)
West Kelowna
(Forced to follow council's lead on a head-to-head vote.
I actually prefer either Okanagan Hills or Westlake for the name)

Re: Westside Naming Referendum
Is it really reasonable to have a thread where we (the well-known group of forum users) present our well-known views on this somewhat silly ballot created by the Fab Five?
Even the title of this tread is incorrect.
I would probably have a heart attack if angusog ever came on here and suggested that “it” would vote yes for Westside and, for the second question, West Kelowna!
Note to hereiamagain, canadman, rturner, fairweather, and bestside --- if you really want a name other than Westbank then you better vote YES (darn it! I meant NO) for the first question when you really vote (not on this thread but on November 15). If Westside can get a majority then no change will be made and we can continue onward just as we have for the last year. Then perhaps when everything cools down and every person thinks carefully, gets rid of their anger, and Council does some homework to change our present out-dated bylaws, and people really wish for unity, we can have a proper PREFERENTIAL ballot type REFERENDUM with 7 GOOD names (including Westbank) perhaps in one year, two years or during the 2011 election.
Also if the name Westside gets perhaps 46% and the results of the second question are Westbank (or even West Kelowna) getting 45% then what will Council do? Council won’t force the issue and choose the winning name from question 2 if Westside garners a larger percentage. Personally, I think that the name Westside is very bland but I realize that the name Westside has been associated with most of the area of our municipality for a long time so let us not dismiss the first question out of hand. There are some good reasons for voting YES (again I admit to a mistake here - I should have written NO in my original post) to question one!
By the way …. no person, either here or anywhere, has any idea how I intend to vote and I hope to keep it that way!

Re: Westside Naming Referendum
Despite what some may think and say, the topic of the name can be brought up again at any time, and a non-rushed study with research, et al, as should have bee done by our current counil can be pursued. So I have no concern whatsoever in voting NO to the first question at this time.
