District of West Kelowna
Incorporation over amanlgamation, 51% to 49% (est.); West Kelowna over Westbank, 51% to 49% (est.). What a decisive community we are!

If this result holds up - I am very happy with the new name.

Re: District of West Kelowna
By my arithmetic, and to correct my original eyeball estimates, 47.92% for West Kelowna, 45.85% for Westbank. Not a simple majority, not good enough for a referendum, but council has said it will accept the "first past the post" plurality getter if need be.
Well done, West Kelowna. Sorry, Westbank.

AWESOME!!!!!! Poor Angusog and Urbane and Seren..oh wait...they were so sure they were going to win, so really...I don't feel sorry for them. Not so happy about the rest of the election though...why didn't anyone elect the "good" councilors. Yeah sure we got a few good ones, and our mayor...don't let me get started on that..oh gawd.

But council isn't bound to do anything at all as I understand it. Regardless of what they may have indicated in the past, they could just decide to keep Westside for all we know.

Interesting minutae of analysis ... 8175 voted on the naming change/no change question (Part A), but only 8016 on an actual name in Part B. What that PROBABLY says is most of the no-change people did have an alternate name they could live with.

Re: District of West Kelowna
Wait a sec, I thought those numbers to mean 8,175 voted to CHANGE the name and 159 decided they could live with any of the names listed

Re: District of West Kelowna
toru_msb, only councillor-elect Rosalind Neis of the councillors elect said (to my recollection) that she would look for at least a simple majority, so it will be a great test of her integrity when it comes time for council to vote because I'd hazard a guess she preferred West Kelowna.
