Corn on the Cob

Post by Bsuds »

If you are looking to buy some corn at a popular grocery store on the corner of KLO and Pandosy then look carefully.
It is far too mature and tastes terrible.

Kinda spoiled our dinner last night! :-X

I only buy directly from the farm. It is still too early for local corn.

I had a hankering for it last night but was sorely disappointed.

We stopped in Chilliwack one time on our way home from the Coast and bought corn. Boy was that a bad idea! lol

Some of the best corn we have had was from Wal Mart in Omak for .10 ea. Strange but true.

Paid .88 ea yesterday and was the worst.

Corn starts to lose it's natural sugar 20 minutes after picking. I go to Day's Farm on Byrne Rd. every morning as they are opening.

I get my bounty home and into the fridge as fast as possible.
Any corn that has to be shipped in to the store is already too old for my liking. I never boil corn. I boil the water, no salt, drop in the corn, shut off the heat, cover for no more than 5 minutes before serving.

try cooking it in the microwave in the husk (google it). it turns out amazing and stays hot way longer than boiling....

The problem with that method is, that you now have to schuck hot corn.

Best corn I've ever had was at a U-pick place north of Williams Lake at Soda Creek. If you're ever heading to Quesnel, Barkerville, Prince George, or beyond in late August or September, it's worth the stop. They also supply Save-On-Foods with corn, but nothing is a fresh as eating it right in the field. The owners encourage you to eat some while there for free (they only charge you for what you take with you).

YEAH.....me too. Is it possible to OD on corn?

I was going to abbreviate that to COC....but that just wouldn't look right.

Since we are talking about my most favorite food, I did a little research to confirm that the information that I was taught over the years was correct. Here is website that I found that I thought was interesting, and I thought I would share it with you.
