Food prices, what have you stopped buying?

Post by hismaimai8888 »

When a head of cauliflower goes for $ 6+ I refuse to buy it even though I love cauliflower, my last shopping trip I couldn't believe they wanted $ 4 for a head of celery, not just any head of celery it was the smallest one I've ever seen, probably half the size of a usual head, with these prices those are the two veggies I now refuse to buy.

Not completely stopped but reduced red meat and chicken. More fish now.

We just eat what's in season. Berries get expensive when they're not, so we don't buy them.

I eat whatever I can afford, however I stay away from fish. Not sure if it's just me or that it taste worse then 10 years ago.

It still tastes like fish. Different fish tastes different from the others.

Fish is expensive.

Not as much red meat - and we do miss it.

Green grapes. When you're lucky you can find then on sale for $1.99/lb but they usually go for $3.99 or more.

Canned anything other then specific soups.

It's not that I can't afford anything, I can, like that commercial, "the good stuff." It's that I resent the ever shrinking package but paying the same or more.

I stopped buy ice cream. That one for some reason hurts the worse.

As usual we in BC get screwed. Peppers ( all colours) $3.99 pd here, $1.69 pd Edmonton
My friend and I compare costs, by in large every food/meat is less there
People stopped buying as much red meat, so pork and chicken go up

I don't buy fancy cheese much now ( sliver is $8.00)

Nothing I just shop around more.

Meat, and staple vegetables from costco - cheapest by weight, meat has less water in it and is usually a better cut.

Main vegetables - Mikes(used to be Pauls) produce quality and freshness is way above most grocery stores, prices are usually under.

Canned stuff and odds and ends I can't find elsewhere - Superstore is usually 40-60 cents a can cheaper than save on and has more 'world food' items that show up less at other places.

Top up items - Usually save on because its more time effective (time is money) to grab a few things there then to do the same at superstore which is always really busy.
So much of the violent push-back on everything progressive and reformist comes down to: I can see the future, and in this future I am not the centre of the universe and master of all that I survey, therefore this future must be resisted at all costs.

I try to base my menu around whatever happens to be on sale that particular week. And whenever there's a really good sale on something I try to stock up.

I agree, but I get 1-2 fresh meals/week and 5-6 days of leftovers. If I plan right, I can combine the two fresh meal's left-overs into a completely different meal.
For example: L/O pizza + L/O spaghetti, is a completely different entree.
L/O burger patty + L/O mashed potatoes, add corn/peas as a "side", and if really lucky add some L/O gravy, and call it Salisbury steak.
