How is Canada doing?

Post by Captain Awesome »

Canada won 24 medals in 2006 Olympics (3rd overall). How do you think we'll do this time around?

I really hope we'll do better being that Olympics are in Canada.

A bit of a boost for athletes?

Having the facilities to train on, "home advantage", we should do pretty good

If the only gold medal we get is for mens hockey , then it wil be a success.

Hope we do well. My only concern is to already talk about that we should get at least 30 medals or more. Our athletes should not deal with these kind of expectations. Let the athletes do what they are good at. Let them enjoy the games. Then the rewards will come.

As it is Canada is 7th in over all Winter Olympic medal count:

As long as we hold our own with a hard work we may inch up on Finland in 6th.

Predicting medal counts or expecting X number is just foolish. If we do great wonderful if we don't still wonderful. Once in a live time chance for some, so go for it and enjoy.

I really liked Mike Roberts comments about the whole "win the podium" thing on the news last night. I agree with him 100% - it doesn't matter how many medals we win, it's about going out, putting in a good effort, fostering international cooperation, and having a good time. After all, I don't think the Olympic ideals were ever about strutting around going "we're number 1, we're number 1. . . "

See if we get a few medals tonight. Speed skating and women's moguls. We've got a few at the top of the mogul's right now.

Pretty sure the Canadian women will get a medal in hockey lol. They are currently spanking Slovakia 7-0 after the first...and Slovakia beat Bulgaria 82-0 in qualifying last year...quite a difference in skill level in women's hockey!

lol, I know! I've seen games around 20-0 and it was non stop scoring action...82-0 the announcer was probably still announcing who scored the goals and got the assists 3 hours after the game was over!

12-0 Canada half way through the 2nd.

Hay Captain A...now that the games have started, do you mind if we keep this thread going as "How IS Canada doing?". A place to post updates on how Canadians are doing...

Or I could not be so lazy and start a seperate thread. lol

Cool, thank you.

Canadian women just qualified for the next round of 500m speedskating.

Canadian women just pounded Slovakia in hockey, 18-0!!!

Several Canadian women near the top after round 1 in the moguls event. We should win our first medal(s) in an hour or two.

Jen Heil, second after round 1 just won our first medal...a Silver...WTG!

Our Canadian women mogul skier that was 4th (Kristi Richards of Summerland) wiped out on her second run...she was going full blast trying to get a medal... :rate10: for effort. And then she got up, put her one ski back on, kind of held her arms up like "hey, I tried" then took a few seconds, and finished the race with a HUGE jump at the bottom! Great attitude/sportsmanship.

Canada came in 3rd place in Turin, 4th in Salt Lake City and 4th in Nagano. If this trend continues, it looks like we might do well this time. Jen Heil just won a silver medal in the mogul.
