Regardless of who "wins" an election, they always are up against a Silent Elite. Do you believe the extreme poor who voted for Trump ever thought their non-profit support would be slashed right out from under them?

I was watching the news (global) this mornin' and that is exactlly what went through my head.Queen K wrote:I did make a post somewhere that these Games are cursed, help me if you know the answer.
One of the key people to bring Vancouver the Games died of Cancer just before an important announcement, I think it was that Vancouver even got the Games. Who was that person? And start the count of cursed events from there.
"Is there a curse on these games" I don't even fully believe in curses!!!

I for one thought the whole thing was a big waste of our monies, but since it is fact that they are here, would like to enjoy as much as I can and get as much positive out of them as my family and I can. Since we will (I) be paying for them the rest of our(my) lives.
It is better that my daughter hear us cheer on all participants, no matter what Nationality than to cast shadows on the whole event.

Maybe even instill a little Canadian Pride.. :cheerleader:
It is tough...one thing right after another :nukeem:

Re: The Glitch Games
Once again, has nothing to do with 'Canadian pride' or the athletes. Separate issues and if you are trying to lump this farce together with that to make a point you already lost the plot.
I am embarrassed by all this and saw it coming a mile away. So scratch the pride thing. Lot's of foreigners bitching about the own the podium thing. They seem to think it goes against the modest Canadian impression we have around the world. So scratch more pride.
I can't bare to watch CTV anymore. Several reasons. That stupid "I believe" theme song is annoying for one. Their 'rah rah Canada' thing is getting annoying. And quite simply, NBC's coverage is just much better all around. Actually quite impressed how modest NBC is being and how much favorable coverage they are giving the Canadian athletes. Not over the top crap like CTV.

Re: The glowing reviews keep pouring in.
The sport is not taken very seriously though. Not yet. You can see it in the attitudes of the snowboarders. It is exciting to watch and I have no doubt it will get bigger and more serious. More serious is not necessarily better as the athletes seem to really be having fun with it right now.Bubalouie wrote:I was listening to a talk show last night and funny, they said that the snowboarders and other's that do those sports are as much an athlete as a hockey player, or anyone else participating in the games............they have to train just as hard and be in the best shape.Cateyes wrote:
But hey, some pot smoking hippy chick won gold in that most prestigious of Olympic events....SNOWBOARDING....so it was worth it.......lol! Unfortunately people with standing room tickets couldn't watch.
PS: Don't know her, seems like a nice person and I am sure she worked hard for it. Just saying, she does give the distinct impression she smokes a lot of pot. Same with the guy who got silver. Just sayin. I wish them all the best and hope they both get lucrative corporate endorsement contracts selling cheetos, pringles, oreo cookies, and maybe get some video games named after them.

Guess you also missed the part where the IOC begged to have snowboarding and those events included because it attracted a much larger younger audience...........

Re: The Glitch Concert
The Vanoc fat cat snobs figured they knew better than the coaches and experienced Olympic organizers and the athletes themselves. They failed to listen. It's a failure from the top down not the other way around. Leadership and management failures. It's quite obvious.eyepop wrote:i don't believe in curses.Queen K wrote:I did make a post somewhere that these Games are cursed, .

Just as obvious to you as the new bridge would be a dismal failure?Cateyes wrote:It's quite obvious.

WAAAAY off topic there Nebs. This is about the obvious problems with these Olympics. Maybe you folks who are attacking cateyes should spend a little time reading about all the issues.Nebula wrote:Just as obvious to you as the new bridge would be a dismal failure?Cateyes wrote:It's quite obvious.
I don't know much about Cateyes, but I can see with MY eyes that there are many many things wrong with this event that should have been foreseen and avoided. Management of VANOC and IOC have botched this.
We can close our eyes and blame the messengers, but the truth is, the legacy of this Olympics is being written around the world-and it is not good.

Ya think. And do you think most people in the world know or care to make the distinction?Bubalouie wrote:The article is about Cypress, NOT Whistler...
