what is the point of this thread? Any fool can complain about things that went wrong. Lots has gone right too. I for one am really proud of what Canada is accomplishing at these games - this is our time to shine and on a whole we are shining brightly, despite some glitches, and despite the efforts of those that seem to want everything to fail.

The joke's really on us. Vancouver choosing to bid for a "winter" games was a joke in the first place, but an even greater one was the IOC choosing Vancouver for "Winter" games. Nab

It is really unfortunate. I certainly don’t support the obscene waste of this fiasco, but I absolutely did not wish this on anyone – terrible tragedy, weather conditions causing event cancellations, logistical failures, being internationally embarrassed by our esteemed premier, etc. (some things our fault, some not). I don’t even want to start asking “What else could go wrong now?”

I don't think I'd put too much stock in what is written in a rag like The Guardian considering most Brits view it as their version of our Globe and National Enquirer.

Frankly all the negativity doesn't surprise me as that's what sells papers and magazines and the Olympics are so dominating of airwaves that regular programming is all messed up so folks have nothing better to do but criticize.

You would think from all the hot air that every Winter Olympics ever held never had issues, obstacles, or less than desirable weather conditions to deal with.

Personally I think that Cypress was a dumb choice to hold events at when we have so many better suited options in BC but the rules are laid out by the IOC thus given their supposed expertise in these matters if anyone should take any blame it should be them.

I'm not a weather man but I do sometimes have to laugh when weather records are used in any argument because any fool can see that just in the last ten years or so the winters have gotten milder and milder ergo I haven't found what's happening at Cypress to be too shocking.

* Organized were accused of having major problems dealing with international press.
* Numerous complaints were received about overt commercialsim.
* Bombing, killing one and injuring 111 others.
* Overcrowding in the Olympic village.
* Complaints about the quality of available food.
* Accessibility and convenience of transportation was an issue.

2000 Summer Games, Sydney
* The Olympic cauldron was subject to a technical glitch during the opening ceremony, when a computer switch malfunctioned, causing the cauldron to hang in mid-air for four minutes.
* Gymnast after gymnast fell off the vault during the Women's Gymnastics all-around final. A number of gymnasts were injured. It was finally discovered that someone had set the height of the vault five centimetres too low.

2002 Winter Games, Salt Lake City
* A number of IOC members were forced to resign before the games after it was discovered they had accepted bribes in return for voting for Salt Lake City to hold the games. It became the 2002 Winter Olympic bid scandal.
* A French figure skating judge was thrown out in another scandal.
* More allegations of bribery were leveled against many ice skating judges.

2006 Winter Games, Torino
* The metro was completed just six days before the games began, 45 days late. It did not connect to the main railway station until a year later.
* Metro service stopped at 6 p.m. during the games and did not reach any of the Olympic venues. Bus service was found to be inadequate during night hours.
* A number of alpine competitions were delayed because of heavy snow.
* The Austrian athlete's area was raided by Italian policing, who were looking for drugs.

2008 Summer Games, Beijing
* Accusations that China did not live up to its pledge to allow open media access.
* Air pollution problems in Beijing.

Olympics are huge undertakings. Glitches are going to occur.

Did you miss the monkey dance at the opening ceremonies.Ddepending on your perspective it was either humourous or painfully embarrassing to watch. Others in the box seemed to be adopting the "I'm uncomfortable with this" position. Love and adoration is indeed blind though.

I'm not embarrassed about the way the Games are going. I'm embarrassed that so many people (Kelownians/Canadians) can only complain about things.

-Hydraulics at opening ceremonies don't work.
-Wayne Gretzky in the back of a pickup in the rain for 15 minutes
-Luger dies in training run
-event postponed due to "wet snow"
-Zamboni pukes hot water TWICE and threatens to ruin (and delays at ??? cost to athletes) the premier event of the winter olympics (500 m)
-28000 tickets Cancelled due to damage to bad venue


I think we can safely say it is embarrassing.

I am not complaining-I Love Sport and I love Canada-this is embarassing-you can't sugar coat it.
