NBC is doing a great job
Been watching both CTV (channels and website) and NBC. NBC is spanking CTV royally. They are doing more to educated Canadians about Canada than CTV.
Just in the past 2 or 3 days they flew the commuter plane from Coal Harbour to Victoria. Cruised around town to some of the international houses. And today they stepped it up a notch by doing a story up in Queen Charlotte Islands. Visiting the Haida and one of their ancient totem pole sites. Then they did a really cool story about a blind sled dog in Northern Manitoba. Supposedly they did a piece where the commentator participated in RCMP training in Regina and another story about polar bears in Churchill MB, but I never saw those stories.
They have been highlighting/praising Canadian Athletes almost as much as the Americans. Quite impressed.
As far as CTV....meh...Same old same old blandness. Bland commentators, bland stories. Bland coverage. Just bland.
Enjoying the heck out of the ctvolympics.ca website though. Multiple HD feeds with up to the minute stats. I'm especially liking the international feeds where there is no commentary. Just the graphics and background noise. It's like you are there and you get most of the commentary you need from the onsite announcers. You can watch the feeds live or what replays and rewind/pause just like Tivo.

Maybe CTV just assumes that Canadians already know about their own country.Cateyes wrote:Been watching both CTV (channels and website) and NBC. NBC is spanking CTV royally. They are doing more to educated Canadians about Canada than CTV.
Is this the same Cateyes? The one who has been so negative in the past few weeks? Wow!! Good comments though - I do agree with the CTV olympics website - very well done.Cateyes wrote:

Tom 'Brokaw did a nice segment introducing Canada to Americans:

The above link should work but if by chance it doesn't, just go into youtube and type in Brokaw and Canada and it should pop up.

Brokaw says "If you are in a fight, you want the Canadians on your side" - truer words were never spoken. May we never lose that distinction as a nation, or forget all those who helped us earn that reputation.Urbane wrote:Tom 'Brokaw did a nice segment introducing Canada to Americans:

In regards to the other comment. I don't see any conflict with praising the coverage, the athletes, the sports, while simultaneously critisizing the cost overruns and debt and asking if it is worth it. Nobody asked me and I didn't have a say in any of that but I have to pay for it. But they happened anyways so I will get my 2 weeks of viewing enjoyment and wait for the bill. And it's going to be one heck of a bill!
