Re: Updates to the Forums
I think the purpose is for more people to join the forum ( nothing wrong with that) and some articles are encouraging comments and if I recall , it might have been like that a very long time ago
also a some people might of just signed on a very long time ago to sell something in the Classified section and then decided to start posting in the forum and now comments on articles
the newbie term seems to be given by the moderator on the forums, just like your forum status changes to a different term when your post count gets larger-

Re: Updates to the Forums
Commenting on stories is a request we received rather frequently. Instead of using some other comment service with its own user accounts, like we've done in the past, we decided to integrate the Forums system with a story-commenting feature. That way people don't need 2+ logins to post their opinions here.
There are also some further improvements I'm currently working on with regards to the story comments.

Good job Troy; nice to see that back again. IIRC wasn't it "disqus" you used before for story comments a few years ago?Troy wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 8:56 am Commenting on stories is a request we received rather frequently. Now how about that heavily requested and long overdue "like" button? (I know it's not simple and think I understand your difficulty getting that feature back into the forums.)

Re: Updates to the Forums
Troy, I see a story on the Kamloops site, at the bottom it has "Post a Comment" but it's not showing up on Castanet News Comments. It tells me to log in but I'm already logged in.

Re: Updates to the Forums
I found a way to get a comment in and that was enough to put the story on the Comment page.

Thanks for letting me know Babba_not_Gump. I have figured out a solution when posting story comments through the Castanet Kamloops website now.

Re: Updates to the Forums
I'm not a fan of all these News stories showing up in the forums.
Too much scrolling past them all that I have no interest in.

I'm still waiting for a forum "like" alternative to appear.
