Well, that sounds like a shoo-in.
Who are his friends and where would he stand on issues?

Stacking the deck is underhanded. I won't vote for him or anyone who appears to be on Grey's "slate" of "friends".
Blanleil is out, too. Another one I won't support.

Re: Zimmerman to run for council
I'm not saying that I would vote for him or that I wouldn't GF but do you really think that its fair to say that you wouldn't vote for him because he appears to be on Greys slate of friends. He has his own mind and should be given the chance to make it up or at least demonstrate his abilities before you cut him out. Wouldn't that be the same as all those other people who keep blaming Sharon for all of councils decisions. No disrespect but you are always defending Sharon (which by the way I agree with completely) and saying that she isn't acting alone. Friend or no friend of Greys shouldn't matter. I am a full supporter of Kevin Craig and he is very much pro Walt...but he does have a mind of his own and I believe that he makes decisions based on his own thoughts not Walts.grammafreddy wrote:Crap :(asimon wrote:He's definitely part of the old boys.

I am not so sure what Kevin Graig knows about Gray. Was Gray not well before Craig's time?

Kevin Craig may be young but he has done his research and he is well aware of Walt Gray. I do believe that he has stated in the past that he is a Gray supporter, however I could be mistaken. I also know that they are both supporters of the Liberal party.John500 wrote:I am not so sure what Kevin Graig knows about Gray. Was Gray not well before Craig's time?

Re: Zimmerman to run for council
Walter Gray is a master at brow beating and undermining individuals - and if I remember correctly during his last stint as mayor, his remark about one of the newly elected counclors was "well, we'll have to bring him into line" . . . or something similar to that.
Little Kevin Craig won't stand a chance against Gray and Co. - besides he seems to be just another aspiring business man . . . learning the ropes, and could stand to lose going against individuals that are so connected in Kelowna's business world.

I don't think that is fair to refer to him as little Kevin Craig, in fact its rather condescending. He's actually a very bright, well informed young man. He spends a lot of time staying active regarding local issues and actually spent a full year attending council meetings while still in grade 12, just to keep himself informed and to learn how council works. He is currently attending UBCO studying Political Science, Philosophy, and Economics. To say that he won't stand a chance and brushing him off as being just another aspiring young business man is somewhat disrespectful.unbiased2 wrote:Walter Gray is a master at brow beating and undermining individuals - and if I remember correctly during his last stint as mayor, his remark about one of the newly elected counclors was "well, we'll have to bring him into line" . . . or something similar to that.

Re: Zimmerman to run for council
I think Kevin Craig has a lot to learn yet ... and needs to quit checking out how his "mentors" on council are voting before he puts his hand up on issues.
I am rather disappointed in him - had hoped for more from this young man. My personal opinion is he is in somebody's pocket and I don't like that in a councillor. I haven't seen him do too much on his own initiative thus far.
He's also done a bit of flip-flopping, which is NOT a good sign. His campaign promises haven't matched his voting on some rather key issues.

Oh, and Sharon Shepherd is better? I supported her back in 2005 only because I felt we needed a change. Unfortunately, we've had six years of flip-flopping, wish-washing and indecision. We've had committee after committee and report after report and nothing's been done on a number of issues. I think it's time that Ms. Shepherd resume helping out her husband's medical practice full-time - or go back behind the pharmacy counter.grammafreddy wrote:Crap :(asimon wrote:He's definitely part of the old boys.

I'd also like to see the following people lose their seats: Charlie Hodge and Angela Reid-Nagy-whatever-she's-going-by-today. Robert Hobson hasn't been much better but his name recognition and longevity make him unlikely to lose his seat plus he's committed to making this his last term.
Cheers,
Doug

I stand by what I say . . . what I said about Mr. Craig is not disrespectful, it is based on what I"ve witnessed and heard from him.Ljjumbles wrote:I don't think that is fair to refer to him as little Kevin Craig, in fact its rather condescending. He's going to have to show alot more gravitas and conviction than what I've seen to change my opinion.
I've been around long enough to see a lot of well intentioned people run for political positions, only to cave into to the allure of financial gain and political pressures of the day. He's got a ways to go. . . especially if and if I heard correctly, he wants to be prime minister one day.
Now back to Zimmerman.

Exactly my view of Craig, too. Voted for him, but he won't get my vote in November.grammafreddy wrote:I think Kevin Craig has a lot to learn yet ... and needs to quit checking out how his "mentors" on council are voting before he puts his hand up on issues.

Carol Gran is a big fan of Gray's and is hugely pro development - she won't get my vote either.
Todd Sanderson was interviewed on Phil Johnson's show a week or so ago - from what I remember, he was pro Gray as well. Did anyone else listen to the show that can confirm this? If so, no X for him either.
