I have several friends that are firefighters and they support Sharon as well ! (at the polls)
further to that if firefighters retired or active want to donate personally too a worthwhile cause then that is their business !
Also sharon sees the value of these men and women that put their lives on the line for us.
Much better value for the City of Kelowna and its citizens than some rich developer dont you think ?

Sharon firstly lied. She said she would not take any money from anyone that stands before Council. (Only family and friends) Then when asked if she accepted money from the Kelowna Fire Dept. She did not correct them. End of story. She replied, yes I did, $500.00. So she lied. Cant trust her now, sorry. That sealed her fate. Also the fact that she gave them a raise, that doesn't sit well with me. She also now counts on their votes to win. Walter at least is open about his donations. He has not lied about them. Don't think you can fuel an economy without some development? That's part of the reason is in such bad shape.

Lady if you are one ? you are sure brainwashed when has Walter said where his contributions are coming from ?

I am a Kathy, but not sure what difference this makes. Your missing the point. Walter has always been transparent with the fact he accepts campaign contributions. This situation is about Sharon. Sharon on the other hand, has stated "she will never take a campaign contribution from anyone that stands before Council. When she was asked during the AM1150 Forum if she accepted a contribution from the fire dept, she replied yes. So, I guess she lied? After the HEAT she said the check was from a retired fire man. I bet she scrambled to cancel that check and get a new one re-issued hey?

Further.... I have a friend that is a firefighter.... he said WE (all firefighters) are told to support Sharon because she supports us. When I asked what does that mean... he said she supports our pay raises. HUGE conflict here!!!!!....

And again... LIVE on the radio Sharon said the "Fire Department supported her campaign". She did not say a member of the fire department, or a retired fireman or that she returned a cheque to them.... the story is now changing.. wonder why!

Why is it a conflict of interest for a firefighter to openly state they are going to vote for a candidate that supports their pay raises, and is on record being supportive in many other issues?

I can understand it if he said" We'll vote for her IF she supports our issues." but its already happend. There is no backroom deal going on.

I also find it very interesting that Walter claims the firefighters support him, when they clearly don't.

I am voting for Sharon. When I came to this city Walter was the mayor, and it was clear to me within days that developers had the run of the place. In all honestly I think we're just now stating to get out of the hole he dug for us.

Considering the contract ratifications are a council majority vote, support for one, two or three people is hardly any guarantee they will be approved. A majority is 5.

I'm trying to come up with some reason why Mr Gray would vote against the cancer-issue for the firefighters.

Of course fire and police take a good chunk out of any budget. Would you cut the budget and endanger the general public by having a fire department that isn't up-to-date on the latest life-saving techniques, doesn't have funds to keep equipment in good repair, etc.?

Contract negotiations are give and take on both sides and if negotiations stall it goes to an arbitrator who has final say.

No kidding. What an *bleep*. After reading the story on Castanet I have even more respect for Sharon and less for Gray. No wonder the KFD supports Sharon.
