After we voted we met relatives for lunch. They hadn't voted yet so showed us their picks which included the 4Change picks of Given, Gran, Basrin and Blanliel. I gave them my reasons why none of them were on my list. They listened and then decided to scratch them off their list and go with 4 of my picks.
Two less votes each for 4 4Change candidates.
Nicely done!

Thats just great I am however concerned about how many voters were confused or got caught in the "FoulChange" trap.Carmencat wrote:We voted this morning at PRC and waited in line half an hour. When we left the line up was even longer - right out the door and outside. Awesome to see!

I have never seen such an aggressive move on the part of a select few greedy individuals in Kelowna before and I hope for a result that will elect those worthy of serving our City and its people.

Don't agree, as you knowgrammafreddy wrote:There was a fast one being pulled and a railroading job
Again, don't agree. All this was covered at the time, but to remind those that may not have been around for those discussions, there is a generally accepted practice that 3rd reading is considered final by a City Council. That is the spirit of the law. At that point, the Real Estate Marketing Act allows for a planned property to be taken to market!
After 3rd reading the proposal goes to relevent provincial departments for review and approval (e.g. Fisheries, Highways)
Fourth reading is considered a rubber stamp - unless provincial departments come back with concerns. They didn't. Our council should therefore have approved the plan, not undone years and millions of dollars of work.
The merits of the plan, to my mind, are not relevant to this discussion. They were dealt with prior to 2008 through multiple public hearings and consultations. The PROCESS is. They screwed up in process and broke the spirit of the law while just staying on the right side of the letter of it.
On another note GrammaFreddy. (May I call u that?) Did u pin down your 9?
I never vote a full slate. I always vote strategically. I'm surprised you didn't since you think you are politically savvy.
The rest of your post just spews all the Gray/4C rhetoric, which doesn't surprise me when one considers your client list. It's the bread and butter so, of course, you will support them and repeat their message.
I am not wrong and I do know the political process for 3rd and 4th readings. I also know the background on this so your bamboozling is wasted on me. If I had been one of those new members of council, there is no way I would have voted for it - not under those circumstances and restrictions. They were well within the law. It was the law that prohibited them from full access to all the information they required to make an informed decision.

Ya, Takin it easy, that worries me as well. However you get what you deserve so if there are that many uninformed/easily led/or new people who don't know all the history, and the 4Change picks get in, hopefully they voters use their votes more wisely the next time.
It's only three years so hopefully we still have a downtown waterfront then.....

I was unaware that the Mayor and Councilors elected would be awarded a magic wand that they could transform entire swaths of the city with. Regardless of who gets in , the economy will dictate the scope of new development , not council. There will not likely be much visible change downtown before the next election , regardless of who gets voted in or out.

I agree with you Gordon but what concerns me is what land and location of same is re-zoned and or sold off to waiting in the wings developers if the FoulChange gang gets in before the next election they will have 3 years to do their damage !gordon_as wrote:I was unaware that the Mayor and Councilors elected would be awarded a magic wand that they could transform entire swaths of the city with. I don't live in Kelowna , but when I visit , I like to go to the north end of the waterfront , near the Grand where everything has been changed by those nasty development types. If you kick them out of Kelowna , hopefully they bring their ideas and money north to vernon where everything is crappy and remains the same decade after decade.
