If someone of the calibre of say Jim Pattison where to run for Mayor of Penticton, would people not vote for him because he was non resident or would that be secondary to the man's obvious brilliance as a forward thinker and administrator?

If someone from West Bench, Naramata or Trout Creek runs for mayor in Penticton, they have a 10 or 15 minute drive to city hall, and probably shop in Penticton, visit a local dentist/doctor/lawyer... Now if Walter Gray decided to run in Penticton, the electorate would probably not vote for him because of the physical distance from his residence and likely an assumed lack of intimate knowledge of the local issues. I think both Ashton and Bloomfield are sufficiently connected to Penticton for people to elect them on their individual platform/record/style and/or whatever else the voter deems important.

Katie Robinson does live in Penticton has been living here for a very long time. She also has 9 years of experience as a City of Penticton Councilor from 1990 - 1999, she topped the polls in two of her election runs. I don't think that there is any need to look outside of Penticton for Mayor. Looking forward to the Mayoralty Forum tomorrow evening at the Penticton Lakeside Resort.

I'm with ya, steadyeddie. I hope its Katie that tops the polls. For councillors, I have narrowed down the field a bit, I quickly removed all present council members; making the choices left a lot easier.

Seriously concerned about Julius and Katie splitting the vote and D.A. squeeking in... Should the anti-Ashton voters consider voting tactically? And if so, which way? I think Julius has a better chance. Katie's record is a long time ago and Julius has lots of current name recognition and is better known that Katie and appears better organized.

I have a hard time believing that voting either for JB or KR would be a responsible choice for Penticton. One has no experience in civic affairs and the other still thinks it's 1999.

We have a very fragile economy. We need an experienced leader. It might be different if either one of these two had any CEO experience but they don't even have that.

We need a leader, does Dan Ashton fit that description?

Not in the opinion of most of the people that I've talked to, he doesn't. His ship is getting ready to sail due to his "record"; not the person.

Enlighten me XT -- What part of DA's record puts him in harm's way?

Return to “C.E. Penticton”
