Too bad Katie did not do the honourable thing when it became clear Julius had the momentum. Ashton being the first mayor re-elected since 1993 will definitely give the wrong impression in the 'history books'. Elections for 1 position from a larger field of candidates really should use some kind of stv-system. With six positions up for grabs council I don't think needs an other system, although I woudl prefer an atv type system there too.

Pearce is out, I suppose you can only be gruff and arrogant for so long. Sadly surprised in the number of incumbents otherwise elected. What the h did Judy Sentes do for the past three years except pretend to be Mike Pearce's lapdog. I was glad when she got in three years ago, from her reputation around town, but she has proven a dismal failure on council as has Jakubeit. And Vasilaki makes me ashamed to even live in Penticton. Let's hope that Helena Konanz has got as much going for her as her expensive campaign and media blitz promised. I don't see it. Leaves Wes and Litke against the people who got us into this mess.

I can only conclude that the vast majority of voters have not been following municipal politics and just voted for the nice lady who drives through town in the shiny car, the guy who sells the crazy T-shirts and that funny guy with the funny stache. They've been on council before, they must know what they're doing...

Well the race for mayor ended up just the way I thought it would with the weak candidate taking it because of vote splitting. It will be interesting to see if this has any effect on "Landslide Dan". I am very happy that the electorate surgically removed the cancerous tumor Pearce from council chambers. Without him being there sucking the life out of the other council members we might see things change for the better.

I second your comment about Pearce. While I'm hugely dissappointed Dan is back, I'm twice as excited to get rid of Pearce. :nyah:

Why is it always like that? The hated person wins by only 146 voters.
George bush also won that way.

I wouldn't be so sure that a Harard grad in poly sci heavily weighted in economics and from a well to do family is going to be a tag team with a left leaning Litke.

What? So now that the results are not quite what you had hoped for, you would agree with my previous lament of ill informed voters. My god man, you blew a gasket over my comment and now endorse it!
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.
