Hey everyone, got some hard news for you to hear.
Alberta is not the centre of worlds oil producers, much bigger producers are flooding the market.

She ran them right out of Alberta.

So what your saying is they turn their backs (meaning Finning) on the companies that use their products in Alberta, or it could be just downsizing of Finning/Caterpillar.

The oil patch slow down is obviously affecting Finning.
Great time for Alberta to concentrate on other resources.
Tremendous untapped tourism potential.

Bring on the Americans.

Notley sure has a lot of power,to set the world price of oil and control how much gets put into the market,to single handily put the kibosh on oil sales ,causing them to fall drastically to effect Finning to such a degree as to make them lay people off.

She jacked their tax bill through the roof and made them uncompetitive. When you have to take an extra 20% off the bottom line for taxes, plus deal with customers who have dramatically scaled back capital investment because of increased taxes, you're in a no-win situation. I do have some faith that the jobs will be reinstated though, but not for the next 3 1/2 years - when Notley gets dumped on her socialist *bleep*.

You are out to lunch on your information.Alberta raised the corporate tax rate from 10% to 12% 2 % .not 20%.Still way lower than the USA.None of the stories that I have read blame a tax hike for the oil production slow down ,which is world wide and caused by many factors ,none to do with Alberta, tax rate. You need to stop reading that Sun News righty rag and get some perspective .

Always so quick to insult and call out. 10%-12% is a tax increase of 20%. IF you made $10.00 an hour and got a 20$ raise you would then make $12.00 an hour. This is not a hard calculation. Companies have had a 20% increase to their tax bills is not a lie, it is the reality.

2% does sound small, but when dealing with numbers in the million, let's say 500,000,000.00, that is an additional 10,000,000.00 that the company loses to taxes. Some think great, and in a simple form it is, however when a company is looking to save that 10 million guess who gets to pay the price.....yup, employees.

Compound that with the slowdown and it gets pretty ugly. The NDP don't control the market, however the budget released made the situation worse, not better, for anyone. At best it should have been done over time after seeing what the market might do for recovery before slapping it down again.

20 % overall increase on a 2% rate increase is still lower combined with Federal compared to the USA.And equal to Manitoba And they are still making money even at the price of oil ,just not as much.Notley is not the primary cause of layoffs in Alberta and probably around the world, when it comes to the oil industry,as being made out to be the fact from a few people.

I won't try to claim she is the main cause, but they certainly aren't making a helping environment to prevent more layoffs with the current route.

With issues this large it is never one simple thing, but the path taken should be done with care by any government.

you fail to mention what is really going on in the market . iran is going to dump ship loads on the market and the yanks will be partners with them. . to keep everyone employied she would need to subsidize the whole industry there . how much would that cost ?

alberta needs to diversify and when the price is jp high again in 50 years or so the jobs will come back .

You're not very good at math, are you? An increase from 10 to 12 is a 20% increase. 2%/10% = 20%. If I pay you $10/hr and increase your wage to $12/hr, you just got a 20% wage hike. A 2% wage hike would be 20¢ and you'd make $10.20/hr.

That's why the NDP makes poor financial decisions - they just don't understand mathematics and thus they don't understand the impacts of their stupid decisions. Increasing someone's bill by 20% is disastrous in a sluggish economy.
