Wrong again George. You are just whining now because the NDP got spanked, and you are trying to find any excuse you can, other than the reality of the situation, and that is that the NDP is just a bad party with bad policies, that Canadians just don't like, if there is an alternative that suits their values better.

The NDP didn't lose because of their policies GB. They lost because the anti Harper vote became convinced that voting for the Libs was the only way to achieve that goal.

why don't you ask Urbane why he didn't vote NDP. I think you'll get a different answer then the one you've chosen to believe.

Really Merry? Then what is the excuse for every other federal election which they failed in?
There is a reason they have never been on the Federal stage Merry, and as many times as it has been explained NDP supporters deny it for what ever reason. Maybe it's time to face the facts and move on ?

The NDP lost because, when push comes to shove (when the pencil meets the ballot) most of us would much rather vote FOR someone or something that we DO believe in, whenever we have that option.

The NDP strategy presumed we would want to use our votes to get rid of Harper by voting NDP, even if we didn't agree with their policies, even if we felt they had not fielded the best local candidate to represent our riding.

Why would we use our vote to support the NDP if instead we could vote for a platform we are more comfortable supporting, or for a local candidate we have more confidence in? THAT is what truly matters, voter confidence. It mattered in this election, just as it will matter in the next one. This is what the NDP does not seem to grasp.

And Merry, you simply cannot pretend your leader will be able to maintain a truly centrist platform if your party is predominantly fielding leftists, social justice warriors and the like, to represent our ridings.

The electorate in Canada determined that getting rid of HarperCons was the immediate priority. With which I agree. They also realized that if they coalesced behind Mulcair's NDP there would be a chance the vote could be split between the NDP and the Liberals, allowing Harper to sneak in up the middle. The electorate chose to do the expedient thing.

and I think this federal election has caused some of the younger group to pay MORE attention to the political realm. Which is a good thing.

So every federal election vote splitting is the reason the NDP has been unwanted in a federal election.? LOL that is priceless.!

They realized that the NDP is a joke. Something they realize every election. So of course they chose the expedient thing, which was to not vote NDP.

Sorry I think Mulcair did not win.
"Policies" lost it and i doubt the NDP will be any more than at times a great opposition in my lifetime. I have no idea what fuels the NDP or the Greens (another story)being that they are always outside looking in. Wouldn't they be more effective getting into mainstream parties and making a difference there? Maybe time to work a little smarter, no doubt some work very hard.

Vote change in numbers and percentages for the top five parties:

Comparing votes: 2015 and 2011 elections

Party Change in vote totals, 2011-2015 Percentage increase/decrease
Liberal +4,133,373 +59.66%
Conservative –54,268 –0.97%
NDP –963,704 –27.85%
BQ –80,515 –9.84%
Green +38,860 +6.42%

It's clear who the biggest loser was. It's not even close.
