The comments that follow the beneath the news article are also enlightening and entertaining.

I like this one the most "If Socialistic Venezuela was such a wonderful thing, why did 2 million people flee the country rather than 2 million trying to enter?"

I wonder if the people screaming socialism about Venezuela know that less than 30% of employees actually work for the public sector...

Or where most of the power in Venezuela lies. Venezuela is far less socialist than people realize. The problem is the companies imposing artificial retaliations against the country in an effort to try to curtail any policy changes that may affect them.

If you read the news reports out of Venezuela. The 96 hr wait to buy fuel is due to government . Fuel in Venezuela is cheap. Maduro does not want capitalists from Colombia sneaking into Venezuela buying up fuel. Taking it home to Colombia to resell it at huge markup. So now to buy fuel in Venezuela one needs a proper ID card and biometric fingerprint ID . Yep. Somehow that has got to be who’s fault. Oh ya. American businesses who were kicked out of Venezuela ages ago. Why cuz Somalia

Five South American countries and Canada want Venezuela placed under investigation as a humanitarian crisis continues to roil the country.
The leaders of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Canada on Wednesday signed a joint statement addressed to the president of the International Criminal Court asking for a probe into possible crimes against humanity in Venezuela.

90 percent of the remaining population lives in poverty. Maduro is a criminal and he has destroyed the country.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

Thought so, didn't read the link, did you? It wasn't socialism that put Venezuela in the poor house. It was mismanaging their god given wealth. This will also happen to individuals too if one was to mismanage their SOURCE of income.

Venezuela was initially prosperous due to oil and its high prices, but times came when oil prices dropped. There were high levels of home ownership, credit cards, and modest prosperity until Hugo Chevaz was voted in. I suppose if you can't have a successful coup, then get elected. Hugo is to blame for bad economic policies which caused enormous debt due to unfettered spending, state ownership of everything, subsidies, cheap oil, gas, electricity and more. So, it was a socialist who mismanaged their God given wealth?

Hugo was a big time socialist. He aligned with socialism and hated capitalism which is partly why he didn't like the US.

"Following his graduation, Chávez was stationed as a communications officer at a counterinsurgency unit in Barinas, although the Marxist–Leninist insurgency which the army was sent to combat had already been eradicated from that state. At one point he found a stash of Marxist literature that apparently had belonged to insurgents many years before. He went on to read these books, which included titles by Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and Mao Zedong, but his favorite was a work entitled The Times of Ezequiel Zamora, written about the 19th-century federalist general whom Chávez had admired as a child. These books further convinced Chávez of the need for a leftist government in Venezuela: "By the time I was 21 or 22, I made myself a man of the left".

Most of the industry and employment in Venezuela is private. Venezuela is not nearly as socialist as people here would like to think it is. Nor is it the only place in South America with extreme poverty and other similar issues (despite some of those other nations being more capitalistic) additionally, there are many socialist nations around the globe not experiencing the problems plaguing Venezuela.

In short, it’s not black and white, and you can’t simply scream “Socialism” to explain the problems. No more than I could scream “Irish ancestry” to explain why you’re poor.

The world is not so simplistic.

You live with socialist policies all around you, in Canada. :135:
