"NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh cautions politicians that they “must remember the consequences when they stoke fear and division.” Wise words, if only he had adhered to them when he accused the truckers of sedition and trying to burn down an apartment block, which, it turns out, were proven false. Yes, the behaviour towards Singh is unacceptable but you know, “you reap what you sow.”

Your continually supporting the virtue signalling illusion that JT promises his followers.
People hate JT for the obvious reasons. He is a loser and got beat up far too many times in school.
He's selling emotional tokens to his followers. The rest of the country want a leader.
I

And what ,
"does So how many leaders in the last 7 years?

Liberals 1
Cons 3.....next one 4"

have to do with Jagmeet?
You'll have to ask Gordon, it was in response to his scenario.....but the NDP was accidentally left out in my resonate with 2 leaders in the last 7 years with Jagmeet being 1 of the two.........happy?

But where is Jagmeet in your post except for the last line? There are plenty of JT bashing threads on this forum, you shouldn't have any problems finding one.
Lets see you, yes you, make references as to what see as not fitting a certain forum, clearly then see your own hypocritical behavior and wash it out with, Mine was "accidental"?
Why not just give others the same allowances for their post's and spelling instead of needing to resort to liberal tactics?
Really who cares, its entertainment, like your post's.

And where in that tweet do you see the words "truckers are Nazis"? It's twisted to interpret what he said that way. What he said was right and correct. Confederate flags and Nazi swastikas are vile. If you belong to a group of people that thinks they aren't, well, you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas, but most Canadians are not okay with it and are not going to let it go by without notice.

Sell-out Singh can babble all he wants about sowing fear and division in Canada, the likes of which have never been seen before, simply because he aligned himself and his party with the perpetrators.

What a sad and sorry state the NDP has become under Sell-out.

I agree.

Those folks who voted NDP did so because they didn’t want to vote Liberal or Conservative. If they’d have wanted to see Trudeau remain in power, they’d have voted Liberal. So, by behaving more like a Liberal backbencher, than the NDP Leader, Singh has betrayed those NDP voters.

It’s one thing to vote with the Governing Party on certain issues, in return for concessions on other issues. But it’s a different thing entirely to blindly agree to prop up an unpopular Government for several more years.

Mr. Singh is a traitor to both his Party and his country.

Assuming to know the reason why other people vote is ridiculous. As is calling Jagmeet Singh a traitor, which is the same disgusting and unCanadian language used by the far right extremists in Peterborough.

Who knew that ensuring Canadian children receive dental care was 'traitorous'.

Perhaps if some weren't so quick to label politicians they disagree with as traitors, like some have done to Jagmeet Singh, then this wouldn't be the case.

I believe that the article more accurately reflects the NDP/Liberal accord. Rather than a sign of betrayal, it is a sign of political maturity. It is a sign that you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you find, you get what you need. Social reforms like improvements to child care, pharmacare, and dental care have been important parts of the NDP platform. This accord allows first steps toward those goals.

Mr. Singh and the NDP have made a mature and responsible political decision. Rather than force Canada into another election, which would change little, they chose to make an alliance that would allow them to influence and change future government policies. The CPC and Quebec Bloc protest to the alliance is just sour grapes. Even if they aligned, they would not have enough seats to form the government.

In the past minority governments, particularly when supported by the NDP, have done very well. This has been shown in provincial politics. In Germany, coalition governments have empowered backbenchers and allowed progressive legislation that has multi-party support. If Mr. Singh stays in touch both with his caucus and his grassroots he and the Party can only benefit and in many ways Canada can benefit too. After all it was the influence of Tommy Douglas and the NDP that got us our health care system.

The accord give the CPC the necessary time to rebuild. It avoids the week to week minority government game of chicken with the government and opposition daring each other to call an election. It provides a period of government stability, which during this time of the Ukrainian war, inflation, and Covid still on the horizon, Canada really needs. No one is a traitor here. There are only mature leaders, those who want what is best for Canada. After all, who wants another federal election at this time?

I wonder if you'd feel the same way if the NDP had agreed to prop up a Conservative Government for a few years in exchange for dental care? I suspect not.

I'm in favour of basic dental care being available to folks as part of their overall medical care. And I don't disapprove of the NDP negotiating to support the Libs on one, or even two, important issues in return for an agreement to provide basic dental care to the masses. What I'm objecting to is the agreement to support the Libs for the next three years, without really knowing what exactly it is that they will be supporting.

Propping up a minority Government for that length of time, in return for free basic dental care seems like a deal that benefits the Libs more than the NDP. And I think the NDP could, and should, have been less generous with what they were offering.

As for the comment above about not knowing what people were voting for when they voted, I think it's reasonable to assume that if they wanted a Liberal Government they would have voted Liberal. The fact they didn't, suggests that they either wanted an NDP Government, or they wanted a large enough NDP contingent to help keep the Liberals in check.

By agreeing to prop up the Libs for such a long period, with very little to show for it in return, Jagmeet has betrayed both those groups of voters.

Merry, to your point. The previous minority Conservative government had very little in common with the policies and platform of the NDP of the time. In fact, they would be considered polar opposites. While improvements to the delivery of medical services were on the NDP platform there was no possibility that the Conservative government would even consider improvements to medical service transfers to the provinces let alone a new program like Pharmacare. When one considers historical what if’s, one must also consider the reality of the hypothetical actually occurring.

The Liberal/NDP accord and its results demonstrate what can be accomplished with political consensus. The proof will be in the next budget. But sure as there is going to be a lunar eclipse tonight, I sure would not be wanting to heading to an election right now. In fact, even if the clouds and rain prevent me from seeing the eclipse, I know the leaders of the CPC are thanking Mr. Singh and Mr. Trudeau for preventing an election while their Party is leaderless and without a policy platform, which appeals to voters. Perhaps the accord will benefit everyone.
