I didn't say "they were all wrong", what I said was, look at the numbers yourself.
If over 60% of Americans are overweight and obese, that's over 200,000,000 people. Well about 1 million americans died, and most of those, it was due to old age and related comorbidities, not due to being overweight. These 200,000,000 americans are still standing. NOT DEAD. So please explain then how they are soooooo vulnerable. Something else is a greater risk factor.
Now we can point to various groups which have much higher death rates from covid ( 24%, not .5-1%). So why pick overweight? Why not look for much greater risk factors that would make a big difference?
If our government is supposed to do something about this (I'm not sure what you want them to do, I'd like to hear it), shouldn't they be focussing on areas where they could make a larger difference? What should they do with overweight people, who, no doubt know they are overweight? What do you want the government to do? Mandate what or how much they are allowed to eat? Most people don't seem keen on mandates these days, and never would have accepted mandates on what food or how much they may buy at the grocery store. Many people are already in a financial bind, so they have cut down on protein foods, and substituting cheaper pasta or baking more bread. Fruits and veggie prices are high, even more so as winter comes on. Any idea what that will do for overweight people?

According to worldometers, u.s average Covid deaths (mortality) are 3,260 per million population.
Study shows, among diabetic in the u.s. deaths were 1,480 per million(2021).A rise from prepandemic, but certainly not as bad as the average mortality for for the overall population. Something else is driving over half the deaths.

I JUST HEARD AN AMAZING STATISTIC

0% of unvaccinated people regret their decision.

so that means the millions - billions - of people around the world who never drank the Koolaid
don't care about heart disease increasing from the vaccine, they only care about heart disease
increasing from poor diet, which is the way it should be.

Silverstarqueen wrote: Oct 23rd, 2022, 7:49 am Absolutely not true that our government has spent zero time and effort in protecting most vulnerable. Hospitalization and death rates have dropped dramatically. Vaccinations accomplished a large part of that. Vaccinated individuals ARE able to travel safely now. People wanted to get back to their normal lives, and (except for the very elderly) we are nearly there.
Over 200,000,000 obese or overweight AMericans did NOT die of covid, thanks to the vaccinations and great nurses and doctors. Millions of diabetics SURVIVED because vaccinations have greatly reduced the hospitalization time and death rates of all. Being UN-vaccinated would be their greatest risk factor. Since nearly 70% of americans are overweight or obese, then it's not surprising that 74% of covid patients were also overweight or obese. That's just basic logic.
I worry about the facts that you post when a simple search on the internet yields... U.S. population of 329.5 million, times the percent of avg obese of 41.9 percent equals, 138 million.
Where do you get your facts from? Your base numbers are way off! :135:
This is why people on this board should back off on what side is proclaiming the other side of spreading misinformation or telling lies. :smt045
My statements were accurate. I was referring to liisgo's original comment "Almost 74% of adults in the U.S. are overweight or obese, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said" (which I did not say was wrong).

So take your own number of 138,000,000 (if you want to consider the obese, and ignore those who are overweight)
1 million covid deaths in the u.s. (even if every one of them was due to obesity, which we know many were just very old and even UNDERWEIGHT elderly). That is still less than 1% of the obese died of covid.
Please explain then how 137 MILLION obese people did NOT manage to die of covid?

I am guessing the ones who died of Covid didn't vote.

Basic logic is people do just fine without the vax as well
Liisgo is clearly very concerned about the perceived "vulnerability" of overweight and obese people. I was speaking to that concern, not "people who do fine without the vaccine".

This excessive concern for those who are overweight (I'm sure as adults they can seek medical help if needed), may not be warranted: At AGE 70:
". For men, total life expectancy was estimated to be 12.3 for the nonobese and 12.4 for the obese. At each age, total life expectancy for obese and nonobese men was about the same.At older ages, the proportion of life lived with disability increased for both the obese and the nonobese, but it was higher at each age for the obese.

For women, the total years lived as well as those lived both active and disabled were longer than for men. At age 70, nonobese women could expect to live 15.3 years; obese women could expect to live 15.5 years. "
Any explanation why obese people (70 year olds) would have slightly more years of life than non-obese?

Smokers, on the other hand, if they live to age 70, lose about 4 years of life. I don't hear too many liisgo going on about how the government should save people from smoking.
" prolonged cigarette smoking from early adult life was associated with about 10 years loss of life expectancy, with about one quarter of smokers killed by their habit before the age of 70."

more SSQ blah blah blah

No lies, no misinformation on my part, and I resent your implication. I can't help it if you can't read accurately.
No implication, just facts. I can't help it that you post inaccurate information online.
My information is not inaccurate. Your comprehension is lacking.
You have obese at 138 million americans,I had overweight and obese at 200 million, and I quoted Liisgo's comment that I was referring to.
Think carefully, surely you will understand if you do.

Even using your own numbers, you cannot explain why 137 MILLION obese Americans did not die of covid, if they are so vulnerable. That is less than a 1% mortality rate.

Similar result for diabetics and covid. Out of about 38 MILLION diabetics in the u.s., it has been claimed that 40% of Covid deaths were diabetic, which would be 400,000, which is about a 1% mortality rate. That means that over 37 MILLION diabetics did not die of Covid.
