Yeah. Her complaint was a year ago. She has a new entrance to her business now, so the point is moot.

So if I told you I was tired of having so much of our tax dollars being spent on Native reparations etc, you'd say that was hatred.

In reading her comments, from my perspective, her sentiment of "equality" is good but she clearly has stereotyped the various races and cultures with massive broad strokes. Her arguments for why First Nation people should have status cards stripped demonstrates her lack of understanding of the history behind this and/or the Indian Act in general (not that I'm any expert).

I agree with her desire for equality but I don't think she is capable of representing such equality due to what would appear to be her strong bias on First Nation and French Canadians.

I personally don't want government representation that can't present a clear and strong case for why these current inequalities exist and how to correct them without stereotyping the people and cultures so blatantly.

That's the way with the NDP, isn't it? It's not illegal/racist/bigoted/back-dated until they get caught. :smt117

I must say that I agree with Dayleen in that I think the Natives have had it easy and are living off our hard work. We didn't harm them, our ancestors did, and although it was wrong, no one deserves a free hand out.

I think that Natives should have to pay tax, and I don't think they should get money for nothing. Not only does a free hand out not teach people about hard work to obtain something, but I don't see the point. Why are we giving them so much free stuff? Free education, money, no taxes.

I will admit that I do not follow much of the Indian rights or anything, but I just don't see why we are paying for tragedies we had nothing to do with. If Natives want to be separate from us, why do they insist on us giving them free hand outs? Or if they want to integrate with us, why don't they become part of our society?

I understand maintaining ones culture, and would never expect anyone to just become like us and forget their heritage, but when do we draw the line? Will we forever pay for the sins of our parents parents parents for what they did? Imagine the tax dollars being given to native bands that could be used for other purposes?

I am not saying to cut any one off completely, but I think we need to change our focus on giving free hand outs to the native community and better use our tax dollars to help them become more self sufficient and less reliant on our free support, and I think we should use the tax dollar we work our *bleep* off for on bettering everyone in Canada.

Anyway, most people will probably scoff that this is a racially motivated post, when I really could care less about any race, I just don't understand getting something for nothing, especially when those tax dollars could be used for better purposes. They don't want to integrate? Then they should be able to stand on their own, why do they need us so bad?

Maybe I just don't understand the plight of the natives, but I do not understand giving free stuff away to a certain group for no real reason, this is the 21st century, will we forever be in debt for the sins of our forefathers, it seems absolutely ridiculous.

^^^ Great explanation. And, it appears, one that has eluded many of those jumping to her defense. The apologists for her haven't had the insight to understand the real problem with her posts.

I find it frustrating that only white Canadians from Western Canada could be racist with those comments. In Quebec you would get a medal if you complained about the English language being first.
I support her comments. Given the political correct society we now have, putting those comments on the internet was not too bright.

No it's hatred and nothing else.

So when the 99% and occupation protests were going on, and people (including a large number on this board) made comments like "They should get a job" they were expressing hatred?
"Dishwashers, the dishwasher, right? You press it. Remember the dishwasher, you press it, there'd be like an explosion. Five minutes later you open it up the steam pours out, the dishes -- now you press it 12 times, women tell me again." - Trump

I found this interesting comment on the cbc article, it had a rating of 315 thumbs up
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-c ... lowna.html

"Such is the Okanagan, politically backwards by 100 years."

sounds about right..

I'm really confused, I immigrate to Canada for freedom and Free speech, but sadly the more i watch the news i get more surprised, i think Dayleen Van Ryswyk just spoke her mind and what she feels, why she got fired, that's really strange, if no one liked the way she things simply don't support her ideas, shes not trying to heart any one, but she have an idea like any other, either we support or we don't.
and to till you the truth, i went through what she said and i don't find it offensives, this what she things, and the most important is shes trying to help and protect her country, I think she should be corrected not fired.

Now maybe i came from an area where dictators rule, so if this incident happened back home its normal, but here in Canada i find it shocking, can we really speak our mind in here or we will be fired or maybe jailed ?? i really want to know, Is the freedom of speech something from the past ?? do we keep hiding things in here or we face it? i read lots about Arabs and Muslims in Canada by many writers, some of them are wrong some are right and others are just haters, but i read them all and i respect there experience and i admire there freedom. why punish a politician that trying to correct something ?

You're free to express your opinions. And you're also free to suffer the consequences for expressing those opinions.
