Does Dick Canning support Adrian Dix? You remeber the guy that forged and back dated a memo in the Premiers office and took a 70k payoff. Rides skytrain without buying a ticket. Says nothing about Lali paying for advertising with taxpayer dollars? I guess Canning has no integrity either.
Do you see how there is a problem connecting dots like that? Regardless of size, theft is theft. If we are to question a candidates integrity based on their subordinate position and support of their respective party leader, we would either have no candidates for any party with integrity or simply no candidates.
Pinch your nose and vote.

I am still amazed that Dick Cannings is running for political office. He has a world-wide reputation as a biologist and politicians are some of the most hated people on earth. I hope he has a thick skin because he will be blamed for things he didn't do, criticized for things he should have done, slammed for things he did do and generally just bad-mouthed by political haters. I always figured he was too nice/smart for that game.

Re: Dan Ashton supports Christy Clark
Here is the problem as most people are finally starting to realize. If Dan Ashton becomes our next MLA (a big IF at this point), then he will largely be ignored by the Provincial Government of the day, which most people truly believe will be the NDP come May. When Dan pleads in Victoria for financial help with our hospital, do you think that the govt will listen? Dan WHO? From WHERE? Oh....Penticton and the South Okanagan....isnt that the riding who voted against us? As if we will be taken seriously from that point on. No thankyou. We need to elect an MLA who will be with the govt of the day. Dick Cannings is the logical choice and one heck of a nice and honest person. I've not run into one person who says that they will vote for the Liberals and Ashton.....except for 3 or 4 right wing posters on here of course.

Kelowna is a perfect example. Do you think for one minute that the new bridge would've been built if the NDP held the Kelowna area riding, while the Liberals governed Provincially? Not a chance; the Liberals would ignore the area. Billy Bennett insured that they got the goodies for his riding while the Socreds were in power, followed by the Liberals. Its not rocket science. Same goes that if we elect an NDP MLA in the South Okanagan and the Liberals were to get relected in Victoria (a very slim chance, if at all). We would be largely ignored. This election is going to be different; I believe that most people will have the sense to understand this principle and choose to elect a local MLA of the SAME party that will get in Provincially. If not, you can kiss goodbye just about anything you ever wanted to see in this riding for the next 4 years.

Or if Dan wins the riding and the NDP form the gov't they could fund the hospital anyway in hopes of buying the riding in the following election cycle. Equally sound fuzzy logic xt.

Re: Dan Ashton supports Christy Clark
XT -- It seems your issue isn't with Christy Clark, the Libs or even general politics.
Your issue appears to be a personal one against Dan Ashton. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it is a free country after all. I just wish you would be a little more honest and up front about it instead of hiding it behind some disguised "concern".
In relation to this latest "concern" -- of course Dan supports Christy Clark. If he didn't, why would he choose to put his name up for the Libs?
If the NDP win the next election and push us back to the dark ages, I would much rather have an experienced person representing our riding. It will be even more important to have a positive track record building consensus in a divided room (have you been to a council mtg lately?) if the NDP form gov't.
Much respect for Dick Cannings but he doesn't have that experience or track record. And despite his best efforts, he'll get shoved aside in the Leg by more experienced and motivated MLA's even if his party is in the majority.
Nice try XT..E for effort.

That is true, twobits. The NDP have been known to favour supporting health care and education far more than the Liberals/Socreds so it could happen. That wouldnt be the end of the world; Dan gets one term; then the boot and no golden Pension (think you need two terms for that). A vote for Ashton, however, will be a vote for the Provincial Liberals and all the Shenanigans that they have been up to lately; lest we forget. Christy Clark is merely a puppet; no leadership qualities at all. Too bad that they hadn't opted for Kevin Falcon; at least he had somehwhat of what it takes to be a leader. Honestly, I would've liked to see someone like Kevin Falcon take over the reigns, it would be much more of a close race come May. Christy staying at the helm will ensure a major landslide victory for the NDP; no question about it. The Conservatives may even form the official opposition.

So your prediction is an NDP government?

And if, by chance, the Liberals get in Provincially, and Dick Cannings is elected in Penticton, won't this be the same story???? Or if the Conservatives win, then what - oh wait - that's what happens in politics.

If anyone REALLY thinks that the Liberals or Cons will win Provincially, you are living in a dream world. Its a given that the NDP will win. Too much has happened to ensure that the Liberal Titanic can not stay above water. Locally... an NDP win is not guaranteed; we know that but we can still hope.

The NDP casino scandal and fast ferry fiasco are still fresh for me. I have a hard time voting NDP because of that. Liberals were just as bad with all the broken election promises. Conservatives have Cummins as their leader. Is there any other party? Where's Mark Emery? Oh yeah, doing time in the States. Rhinos anyone?

Re: Dan Ashton supports Christy Clark
Not to worry everyone. You just have to endure 4 years of NDP hell and then hopefully a new Liberal/Conservative coalition will lead us to prosperity. This province needs to somehow develop a 2 party system so we can all have a DECISIVE vote. There will never be a proper balance between the left and right, but if there ever is a party that can, they have my vote
