As much as I oppose the "recreational" use of it, I do agree with the medicinal end of it. I have friends who use it for medicinal reasons, and couldn't make it through the day pain free without it.
So I love the Okanagan but it's a place best enjoyed from atop a very large pile of $100 bills. - Spocky

If you are concerned with the Schitzophrenia issue i suggest looking into the Canabidiol vs Canabinol contents in plants. There are chems that trigger underlying psycological reponses, and chems that acctually help it. Both are contained within the same plant.
(sorry for posting a wiki sight, but look at some of the linked sources for a better document).

(for more interests in banned treatments for psycologicsl disorders i suggest reading about DMT, also about Dr.Straussman .. one of the doctors that did the test trials in the 50's)

Re: Castanet Flogs Medical Maijuana Use
I would like to say many people use it to medicate themselves not just for recreational use. Some people don't like to take pills for everything. Just because its legal its doesn't make it the better choice. Some people use it for depression, anxiety, headaches, menstrual cramps and back pain to name a few. For other people- they don't like to go to the doctor, mainly men. If they can find a fix and its not with pills etc then why not? Its medical, its natural. If you can take a plant made by God, rather than a pill made by man it only seems logical. Until you have tried it then you cant really say otherwise. Taking prescription pills is just as bad if not way way worse.

Yes.
I have a question.
Why is it that for some people, cannabis is an ultimate motivator to get out of 'the lazies' or to get an undersireable chore completed, while for others, it is an ultimate sleeping pill (or 'lazy pill")?
I have another question:
Are there any studies done about what percentage of people who smoke cannabis also smoke cigarettes; and which percentage smoked cigarettes before smoking cannabis?
I think it depends on the person, you are either lazy to begin with or not. As far as I am concerned lots of people use it as an excuse.
Or how about trying not to smoke as much and see if you are a bit more motivated and more social....

Re: Castanet Flogs Medical Maijuana Use
I had watched a 20/20 about Marijuana use in the teen years and the increased risk of becoming schizophrenic later on in life. The moral of the story was marijuana does not cause the mental illness - it can enhance an condition that an individual is more likely to have based on family history etc. (Of course the people blaming pot for mental illness would not confirm or deny other risk factors or family history those individuals who were being interviewed had.)The opposite is also true - marijuana use can ease some mental illness problems.
If you smoke a joint and become a paranoid mess then its not the 'drug' for you. If you smoke a joint and get completely mellowed then its a good choice of 'drug' for you.
('Drug' being either 'street' or for medical use.)
All medications have their potential side effects, haven't you heard of anti-constapation meds that'll make you have such fierce diarrhea that you'll crap your pants? Its all a matter of how sick'n'tired of your current ailment are you, would a very small percentage potenial have you too scared to ease your pain? I think those who use medical marijuana would much rather take away the pain using a natural painkiller that has a miniscule chance of enhancing a mental illness opposed to narcotic cocktails that could kill them if they messed up their dosage.
