Re: premature ventricular contraction
Lots of people experience PVCs. It is not really a problem.
Do you have other symptoms?

I was unaware that PVCs are a big enough problem to need a support group for. Is there something I don't know about this?

Exactly what I was thinking. People throw the occasional PVC all the time.
Many people don't even notice them.
I think the problem comes in when the heart does not fall back into a natural rhythm.

actually when you get up to 1000 pvcs aday it does become a problem and is very uncomfortable with chest pain dizziness and severe heartrate fluctuations besides who are you to decide the problems people have that require support until you have experienced it. perhaps you should do some reasearch into the severity of symptoms one can experience from pvcs that are contiuous. bigemy is quite difficult to tollerate on a all day basis. i am looking for other people who may be having somthing similar not people trying to ridicule and belittle a condition you obviosly know little about. but hey thanks for your opinion.

I did not ridicule or belittle anything. I asked for more information from you.
PVCs do not necessarily cause heartrate fluctuations. That was what I was asking you.
I suspect you have been recently diagnosed, or this condition is something you have recently developed. It is understandable that you would be sensitive.
However; your response was extremely rude and ignorant. If you are looking for help, that is not the way to do it. I probably know a lot more about heart rhythm issues than many people here.
PVCs is not a diagnosis in itself, it is a symptom. You did not say what the condition is.
I think you need to do a bit more research before you start beaking off.

What are PVCs?
PVCs are extra electrical impulses arising from one of the cardiac ventricles, usually the left ventricle. (Note: Click here for a review of the normal heart rhythm.) They are easily detected on an ECG. Sometimes the presence of PVCs indicates an inherent electrical instability in the heart, and therefore indicates an increased risk of sudden death. These “dangerous” PVCs are generally limited to patients with significant underlying heart disease.
More often, PVCs do not indicate any inherent problem with electrical stability, and are completely benign.
Most people with PVCs have no symptoms at all. They simply don’t feel them. However, a substantial minority of patients with PVCs will perceive palpitations – an unusual awareness of the heart beat. These palpitations are often described as “skipped beats.”
Whether patients perceive palpitations or not is due to many factors. Some individuals are just naturally more attuned to any unusual sensations that occur in their internal organs – including PVCs. Others are blissfully unaware of their PVCs during the day, when they are active and distracted, but suddenly begin to feel them when they retire for the night and external stimuli are removed. But most do not feel them at all.

Soo... what does your DOCTOR tell you? I had these and still have them; my doctor did the whole referral bit, cardiologist, Holter monitor, stress tests, blah, blah and they were evaluated as benign. I would rely more on a physician/cardiologists opinion and reassurance more than I would on a support group. Perhaps there is an element of anxiety (which is understandable here) that accentuates the symptomatology.

I agree with FF...what does your doctor say?
Have you had these tests done?
Are they PVC's or PAC's? Is is a constant bigemeny? Do you know where the complex lies next to the last normal beat? The PVC's will not give you perfusion like a normal beat which is what causes the dizzyness and chest pain. This you should tell your heart doctor. Just because some people have no problem with them DOES NOT mean you shouldn't. Each person is different. There meds they can try if it is symptomatic. You need to go back to the doctor, and try the cardiac center for answers on others who experience it, as well.

Re: Premature ventricular contractions
I don't know of any support groups for cardiac patients. There is an exellent cardiac rehabilitation clinic in town, but that is something which is more geared to people who have suffered a cardiac event. You may need to have a referral to attend.
They have seminars and exercise sessions to assist people in recovery and to improve their lifestyle.
There are some anxiety groups in town, but they are not really suitable for these types of issues.
St. Paul's in Vancouver has much more available in the way of resources.

lcsilver, I hope you are able to get in touch with somebody who is also experiencing it to the same degree as you are. Getting together for a cup of (de)caf and being able to relate would be a great anxiety reducer. Even if a symptom is found to be innocent it is always scary to have to endure something, especially when it comes to your heart. Knowing another person that is going through the same thing makes you feel like you're not the only person dealing with it. Good luck!

Re: Premature ventricular contractions
Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Yes I have done a lot of research because I also suffer with svt and have had adenosine and other medication numerous times. I am now taking beta blockers and they are great for the tachy but the pvcs are terrible! They interupt my daily living. I'm sure a lot of it is anxiety only because its hard to believe something so uncomfortable could be so harmless!! I am now waiting to see a specialist from victoria un which the cardiologist has referred me. I guess till then I just have to live with it! Thanx to all for the words of wisdom!

Yah...the adenosine for SVT can be brutal, but better than the cardioversion. I feel for ya. Hope you to see the specialist soon, and good luck.
