Black mold
Has anyone ever been exposed to this and been sick because of it?
The reason I a, asking is because I have been constantly sick for no reason at all for over a year. I had the blood work and exams done numerous times, and nothing showed up. We started the tear out of our master bathroom, which we knew was in bad condition, but when we tore the shower down it was horrifying!!! It was incorrectly built and my husband is marveling that it did not leak through the ceiling. My husband does tile and bathroom renos for a living and has never seen something so bad. We moved out of the master bedroom down to the other side of the house into the bonusroom until it dried out and hubby rebuilds the entire bathroom.
As the tear down commenced we both had sore throats and very very sick and felt tired. I feel like this almost everyday, but this was an overload.
Anyone else get sick and then find they were exposed to black mold? I am hoping this is why I have been so sick and when it is repaired, I will feel better. I am so sock and tired of being sick and tired. When I leave the house I feel much better, but when I get home, I feel all tired once again. Hubby is the same, but I thought it was just because when you get home, you tend to be more relaxed.
I am really hoping this has been the case with my undiagnosable health issues. It has been brutal.

It doesn't matter how good looking he or she is, some where, someone is tired of his or her's crap.

Don't worry about the black mold, it sounds like you are allergic to dogs.

Not allergic to my dogs... They are with me all the time and I am only sick at home. What would even allow you to make such an assumption?

Some people just have to speak for the sake of listening to themselves...

Happy to hear you have it all torn out of there and are feeling better. I hope you guys wore masks when dealing with it as the mycotoxins released can be lethal especially when the mold is stirred up.

We worse dust masks and they turned black. Hubby had to rip it all out right to bare wood and still replace 2x4s and rip out and replace the subfloors. He does it for a living, and it is nice to be feeling so much better now. I cannot believe the difference in the way my mind works and my body feels now... what a pi$$ of to have been to multiple doctors and never knowing what was wrong.
Bathroom is looking spectacular and now I really don't want to sell this place. I hated the bathroom since day one, and now it is becoming a bathroom rich people have dammit!

Re: Black mold
We got one bathroom done because the bath tub looked a little older and we wanted a new one and we found a little black mold in behind it, was just one beam where the guy before us put a hand rail in for his wife without sealing it properly. We never felt sick and we had a contractor do it so we were rarely in the house during the job. Luckily it was the main bathroom and the other two are in great shape. The other two bathrooms had no handrails added.
The bathroom we had redone was nice but it looks way better now cos we had it gutted to put all new stuff in it while we were at it.
The ensuite was remodled because his wife wanted it redone and it is one of the nicest bathrooms I have ever seen, was kinda what made us want to buy the house, well there were other things of course but that was a big bonus. Now I want to put a fourth bathroom downstairs for the rec area, thats gonna be a job and a half so might just put in a stand up shower, who knows.
I am glad the mold didnt make us sick, it could have if we hadnt wanted to do the job in the first place cos we would have never known about it. Funny what lurks in your home when you are not looking.
