My reaction was much the same!

The procedure is quite common and is called "Endometrial ablation" - the link below will give you reliable information on the topic:

Re: Don't want a period?
Dunno, guess I must be kinda old fashioned.
It just doesn't seem right to me to mess with my natural order, so I don't. I've always been really regular without doing anything. no pill, no hormone shots no nada.
Is getting my monthly sometimes quite inconvenient? you bet yer boots!
I'll be very glad when I transition through menopause and come out the other side with no period and a moustache.
With the number of young healthy couples I've met lately who are on waiting lists for invitro, I'm thinking something is wrong.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I completely agree with what some have said about not messing with Mother Natures gift to an extent. Everytime we bleed that has meant that we didn't do as we were supposed to and conceive, the whole point to having a cycle from a biological/evolutionary standpoint is to get pregnant. By holding back on our fertility we are messing around with Mother Nature's intentions. What I have read & seen about the increase in menstration equating to an increase risk of reproductive cancers it just makes sense to me to not have a period.

Re: Don't want a period?
I had a horrible time with periods from when they first started, major PMS, sore from the ribs down including my back, periods 3 weeks long....was on the pill for years, trying different ones to relieve the discomfort....then I had the Endometrial ablation surgery you guys are talking about a few years ago....it was great for about 3 months, then everything came back....
Well, my chances of childbirth were nil at that point (not that I ever wanted kids) so I finally got a full hystorectomy done....best thing I've ever done! I feel 20 again and can honestly say I woke up from surgery feeling better then I had in years! I say if you don't need it, get rid of it!!! I still have my tubes and overies so I'll do the menopause thing later in life still.....only side effect I've had is the odd night sweat....

And seriously, it's not major surgery and the pain is just a bit of cramping. Voila!

I have ot agree after I am done with having babies, I think that I too will have everything taken out too except for my overies. My cramps each month are killer 3 days of cramps before and thn another 5 there after and no advil in the world helps on my perscription medication. It feels like my innards are going to fall out of me onto the floor. I was told after you have a baby that they will get beter, well that did not happen with me. My Dr. suggested that I go on the pill and keep taking it to prevent my periods from happening. Like was said by others there is a reason for me to have a period and do not want to mess with that process. And since I want another baby I do not want to do anything to hinder that. And as bad as they are in a way it comes with being a woman. And a reason to be crappy once a month.

I had the same problems as you ladies, the longest stretch I had was for 8months straight when I was about 13. I was put on every pill out there to attempt to control it and then after my second baby I got the mirena and voila! Problem solved. I'd take a look into it and talk to your doctor about it Libelle, it may be a saving grace for you.

I have these cravings on a daily basis, regardless of what time of the month it is.
I was looking into getting a hysterectomy due to brutal endemetriosis but now that I am moving to K town and don;t know when... I have to put it off until I know where I am going to be. Referrals in Alberta take months. I take so much Naproxin, I am sure I have hole in my stomach...
