Long Term Disability (LTD) Disaster
My wife and I lived a fairly normal life. That is up until October of 08. That is when she slipped and fell. That was the beginning of the nightmare. She works for a company that has LTD coverage. Without getting into the details of her injuries, the short of the story is that she was denied.
She has notes from her doctor, notes from a pain specialist, and notes from a physiotherapist. All in support of here injuries. The claim was denied based on the opinion of a doctor in Edmonton without ever seeing my wife. All appeals were also denied.
My wife has been pretty much home bound for this whole time. Any attempt we do make to get out, results in her having to up pain medication to deal with more pain. I am simplifying things here. I could write a whole book. The plain and simple truth is that her/our life is ruined. We have begged borrowed and gone into debt as much as we can.
I see no hope. To lose our home because someone in Edmonton says "no" is unbelievable to me. They don't see her depression, dispair, addiction to pain killers, some sleepless nights, some days with 18 hours of straight sleep and dealing with relentless pain.
We went to a lawyer about this. He said he would not help us because there is not enough money in it for them. I am told that we are near a 2 year statute of limitation period. My plea is for help. Has anyone else gone through this and won? Is there a way for someone who is not cheating the system to prevail?
Signed

I believe your story is all too common. It is terrible what insurance companies do to people.......honest people. Unfortunately I can offer no advice other than speaking with another lawyer. I am sorry your wife is in so much pain. We were in a bad accident a couple of years ago and are dealing with ICBC. They are horrible to deal with as well and leave people with no choice but to hire a lawyer. Best wishes to you and your wife.

Really sad news, hope she figures out how to get it done, is terrible to have to go through that when already hurting. Wish you both luck.

Have you checked to see if your wife qualifies for the Canada Pension Plan disability benefit. It's strictly for long (essentially permanent) disability. That won't solve your problem with the insurance company but might provide some income.

I sent an email offering to help. I lecture medical professionals where they receive education credits they need for licensing.
We developed an imaging application to see and isolate inflammation or lack of if it is insurance fraud. It makes a big difference for medicine and legal teams to see the source of the injury as well as effective treatments.
