Fibromyalgia
I know this was a topic quite some time ago but someone that I know has been diagnosed with it and is getting very frustrated with his doctor........they have as of today upped his pain med's to 24 a day and is going to be given a muscle relaxer to see if that might help some..........In my mind, that amount of pain killers can NOT be good for a person, but his doctor says it is now beyond him and he doesn't know what to do to help. This frustrates me as there has to be something other than, here, take more pills.......he has been told they will try to get him in to a pain specialist but it may takes months.
Does anyone know of a Dr. out there that might be able to help or someone he can go talk to....

Call Stuart Kircher at the Arthritis Centre. He is holding a course right now on Fibro which I am attending. He may have some suggestions.
That is a lot of meds to take in one day. It is hit and miss with what works and doesn't. Many doctors don't know how to treat this Syndrome as it has so many facets. The other option is to call Dr. Alex McIntyre in Penticton, he is a Psychiatrist doing a Fibro study on meds and he takes patients without doctor referral. As for him or his wife, who does the bookings. That is the hardest part in finding a doctor that will work with you. Mine is great but he isn't taking on more patients. I know of some docs around, but you would have to Message me offline for the names.

Re: Fibromyalgia
Dr. Barbara Blumenauer, in Kamloops. A no-nonsense lady who cuts to the chase. She re-diagnosed me from Lupus to Fibro, and within 6 months I had an incredible improvement.
I haven't failed until I quit.

Re: Fibromyalgia
My father has fibromyalgia and has tried everything. His doctor put him on an antidepressant for the condition as it does help some people with the pain. It just made him feel sick so he went off of it. He is now on a medication for arthritis and so far he is feeling a slight improvement although it is still too early to really know for sure if it will get much better than that. Your friend should definitely try another doctor.............24 pain meds a day is just wrong!
