Family Doctor

Post by Stac »

I am new to Kelowna and I am looking for a family doctor. A female doctor is a must for my young daughter.

I have checked https://www.cpsbc.ca/node/263 and there are no listing for female doctors. There is a walk-in clinic in Superstore with a female doctor that is accepting new patients but she is booked up until July. If I need to see a doctor I can not wait 6 weeks if there is something wrong with my kids.

Does anyone know of any good female doctors accepting new patients?

Thanks

You might not be able to be choosy. There are few Doctors taking new patients.

Many many threads on this topic, good luck.

Here's one I started, but I'll post more.

And now it's my turn to find a family doctor.

I'm not much trouble.
I do recall when I had to find my dad one I had to promise he'd die soon. From the advanced cancer he had.
What am I going to say? I come in once every four years? Will make me a good candidate?

Anyways, I promised myself to start somewhere at sometime. Here goes.

You wrote that in 2012.

Well in 2019, I was just told that exactly two doctors are accepting new patients right now.
Both are on the Westside, one is closer to me than the other.
Geography?
Is that how one choses a doctor these days?
Of course the female doctor is further away.
Does one go on gender?
Seems to be the most ridiculas thing ever, right?

What do I promise again? I won't be much trouble and you'll hardly ever see me?

Here goes.

"I can't say or no. but come in as a walk-in and he'll let you know."

Okay then, it's the once over, the taking a look at you. Making sure there is no obvious stand out reasons to say either way but to talk in person.

I can find NO other clinics on the website which say they are taking in new patients to be on file.

Dr. Blakemore at Vintage View Medical (250-452-6742) is accepting patients - info relayed to me at 2:40pm today.

Having said that, I did call and waited for a person to answer and yes, ONE Dr. is taking on new patients.
She will evaluate their message on the machine.

Meet and Greet booked. :200:

Should it be this crazy though?

I have two Dr.s to shop around over. Two out of dozens in Kelowna. :135:
There are some advantages to being part of a larger practice though, right?
If one can't see, you another might squeak you in.

My previous doc was a part of a practice and it was nice to have in house referrals (my doc didn't do births, so he referred me to some ladies in his practice who did).

After my old doc retired, he couldn't find anyone to take on his practice (!?!?) so I spent 3 months knocking on doors, hat in hand. I was always quiet and polite and eventually found my new doc. I know it's hard enough trying to find a doc for yourself, but try finding one who'll take on a family of 4!
I haven't failed until I quit.

I can't even imagine. :200:

Right now I have two to meet.

I don't even know how to interview a dr. to see if he's right for me. Nevermind see if either of them even want me.

Ask them questions - like what would you look for in a Dr? Do you want one who is open to alternative care? A non-prescriber or someone who offers you a prescription at every visit?

I never did actually interview, I was so grateful to get one. I am lucky though, he listens. He is patient, quiet and takes direction.

My wife and I recently moved to Kelowna from Alberta. We used the find a Doctor program supported by Interior health. I got the form from a drop in clinic filled it out took it back there and they faxed it to interior health. It took a few days but we heard from them and they connected us with a local doctor close by. That worked out great for us.
