I’m sorry you had this happen. As with all drugs, side effects are rare but can be very serious. Fortunately, flu shots have been proven to be very safe and situations like the one you describe happen to very few people.

You didn’t describe the type of illness so I can’t really comment much more than this.

Of course it does. You've been around long enough to know I just don't rely on one link but actual studies as well. If you want to discount all medical research that's up to you but I think that would be foolish.

MYTH: You can catch the flu from the vaccine.

The flu shot is made from an inactivated virus that can't transmit infection. So, people who get sick after receiving a flu vaccination were going to get sick anyway. It takes a week or two to get protection from the vaccine. But people assume that because they got sick after getting the vaccine, the flu shot caused their illness.

After my 11 month old son received the flu shot and contracted GBS which put him on a ventilator in the ICU in Children's Hospital for two weeks and then Sunny Hill rehab centre for another 4 months after that, we were also told by the "authorities" that they had no reason to believe the flu shot had anything to do with it. Didn't have any idea what cause it, mind you, but they were sure they knew it wasn't the flu shot! As such, no further investigations were done and he was not added to any adverse reaction statistics. To this day however, his medical record states that he can no longer receive flu shots. It would be an understatement to say I've lost faith in the medical pharma-industrial complex.
