As far as the ADHD rate among children, part of the increase has been due to the difficulties of getting learning assistance for many children. Without some diagnosis (and even sometimes with), the resources for those with learning difficulties are spread extremely thin. So sometimes the doctor will go with a diagnosis of ADHD, based on parent and teacher reports of the child not adjusting well to regular instruction. The child may actually have some other totally different learning or behavioral disability, but again, lack of learning assistance to properly diagnose the child. Of course this is not an ideal way to get assistance for those who need it, but this is the system parents, teachers, children, have been handed.

Amazing Thread.

Canada is drug-crazy, and we start drugging kids at an earlier and earlier age. No one thinks anything about it.
Our health authorities sure don't think there's anything bad about prescribing drugs for kids.

So I searched the "askapatient.com" website for one of the ADHD (which is an epidemic in Canada) drugs and this is what i found:

The medicine worked to keep my son calm and he did focus better and finished schoolwork. However, he started recently about a week ago to have abnormal side effects. First, he had trouble sleeping. Then, he became deathly afraid of his grandmas kitten, would scream about how scared he was and needed to lock self in closet/another room. Then he became deathly afraid again later this week and had like a panic attack/paranoia about a fly that was in our kitchen.

That's exactly what I saw with my friend's ADHD son years ago. The poor kid got terrified of simple things he saw.

What a crime - to drug so many children.
