Has anyone tried stopping eating all the crap that makes you fat? Don't drink 3 liters of pop a day, don't biggie size it, don't eat the entire box of donuts for breakfast, and just because wings are $.20 on wed doesn't mean you need to eat $10 worth!! Fat is just a nice thing to call lazy people. There really is no excuse for it.

Bob, I hear what your saying, its just your tact, or lack of it. I have never had a weight problem and feel bad for people who do, I know for the most part it is diet. I am not sure I would have the will to not eat the goodies that I love once in a while. Moderation is the key.. Anyone who can lose weight I take my hat off to. It must be a very tough road, and one you have to stay on to be successful.
I hope the day never comes when I may have to go on a strict diet. I am not sure I could do it. Congratulations to everyone and anyone who succeeds!!

Did your MIL actually do the program? They tailor it according to the client's needs. If they are weighing you 3 times a week, measuring the loss in ounces is not unreasonable.

As for 1200 calories a day, that is still the bare minimum for most adult women. Hasbeen's comment of "eat 1200 calories" is probably bad advice for anyone who is larger and wants to lose weight. A 1200 calorie diet would still be considered "starvation".

lol
that was my point 1200 calories will hurt you
sorry i thought people on here might of had grade 12 biology
iwas wrong, i will simplify what i write so people with cognitive disabilities can understand.
ok?

you can stop right there with your nasty remarks. i suggest you read the rules of the forum before you post again.
thank you.

Perhaps Hasbeen should have taken some English courses.

Grow up. Clearly you're trying to stir the pot around here, knowing people have spoken up about being overweight. There really is no excuse for it.

I guess the truth must hurt?? What I said is fat people get fat by being lazy. Why is that stirring the pot? If people would get off their lazy butts this wouldn't be an issue.

Nice try. People that are overweight aren't overweight because they are lazy. I guess you must be the first part of your signature?

Then why are they fat? Sorry, but I'm going to have to agree with BoB on this one. You can't tell me that you actually believe that all overweight/obese people out there have thyroid problems! When I was pregnant, I gained too much weight (just under 60 lbs) and you know why? Cause I ate too much and was lazy! I took full responsiblity for it, and could've used the "Oh, I'm pregnant, it's ok" line, but chose not too. In my experiences, the overweight people I've met and am friends with either: pretend they're not packing on the pounds, or chose to do nothing about it but eat more to fill the empty void they feel.

Yup, around late spring early summer I had my fire for hiking and walking rekindled, and I quit eating crap.

...more than 30 lbs down!

BoB, ease up on the bluntness. :smt075 There's a better way to express the same thing.

There are a lot of excuses out there for not getting on the ball... SELF EXAMINE people! I say this with confidence because I had come up with every limiting excuse as to why the easy route of inactivity had prevailed in my life. It was not until someone loved me enough to say "what are you DOING to yourself" (and a whole bunch of other relevant things) that change took place.

Good intentions aren't good enough; strike the word 'but' from the vocabulary. If diet and exercise don't work, see your doctor. No more excuses! I know people with Diabetes, thyroid problems, CFS, Fibromyalgia, Lupus (among many others conditions) who are not overweight. In fact, with their weight under control, symptoms of their conditions are less severe.

People that are lazy only contribute to about 10% of the overweight population. There are other reasons besides genetics that contribute to people being overweight as well. In most cases, it's emotional issues that contribute to it. You said a perfect example yourself, people eat to fill an empty void. And what is the most abundant thing in North America? Junk food... "comfort food".

I should have explained further...As far as I'm concerned (and it may only make sense to me) people that eat that crap food all the time are lazy. Too lazy to go grocery shopping, too lazy to make decent food, too lazy to care about their bodies.

I resist using emotional issues as an excuse to not do something for the betterment of oneself. A healthy body will promote a healthy mind. The two are inextricably tied, if you bring one up to a good standard, the other will follow. Likewise, if you let one slide, it's very easy for the other to follow suit. My physician and I did a little experiment back when I was suffering PPD (this is for example only, some cases of PPD require medication regardless); he prescribed me a 20 minute walk every day. My PPD eased to the point where it was manageable by conscious thought exercises.

When a person is feeling emotionally drained, which scenario would be best?

A - On the way home from work stop at the grocery store for fresh veggies and spend an hour and a half whipping up a tasty ethnic/curry dish. (N.A. traditions are some of the most unhealthy)
Pros: Good fuel for the body, and a sense of accomplishment for cooking something yourself and filling your home with the aroma of quality food. Why not involve the family in preparing/chopping vegetables, good times to be had there!
Cons: Might miss having some quality time in front of the boob toob, and might have to spend another 30 minutes in cleanup, missing more boob toob time.

or

B - Stop at (insert fast food joint) for a (insert food choice).
Pros: If the boob toob is important to you, then you get to sit in front of it longer, if that's your version of quality time with your kids or spouse, then you get more of that too.
Cons: Your butt may not get used for anything but kissing the sofa, your body has to do something with all that grease and/or sugary crap. Believe me, if it's low fat at one of those places, plenty of sugar has taken its place.

That is how lazy people get fat. People who don't want to make a healthy meal but would rather watch tv are lazy. Lazy people get fat. Fat people are lazy. Have you ever watched the biggest loser? They are all just plain lazy. Sure they might be down on themselves but it is just a vicious circle. They get down and they eat. They are down because they are lazy. :smt078

Have YOU ever watched 'The Biggest Loser'??? Obviously not because you just contradicted yourself there. Comparing laziness and the show to why people are overweight. Especially when last night's episode was about the emotional aspects of being overweight. And why were they overweight? Emotion stress caused when they were young. A girl who's father left when she was 3. Another girl who's parents divorced when she was young, she never saw her father, then he died. A man who was severly beaten (but his siblings weren't) by his father. Perhaps instead of talking about the show you should be watching the show. Doesn't sound like they were down because they were lazy to me.

Wow!! :smt075

People who get down turn lazy and in turn get fat. Simple fact. And no I don't like to watch fat people exercise so I likely won't watch more than 2 minutes of it.
