Real Estate Lawyer

Looking for a West Kelowna based RE lawyer to close a deal for our son who is moving to West Kelowna and has purchased a house. We used an individual some years back from a major firm and the costs were 'out of this world'. Never knew a RE lawyer could cost so much here versus the more, I guess, competitive Calgary market.

Thus looking for some names of reputable RE lawyers on the west side that I could phone, that won't charge $1000 or more to close a pretty straight forward RE deal via a local realtor. Thank you.

P.S. A PM is fine if you don't want to post a name in thread.

I personal use Pihl Law, but they are pricey and well worth the $$$.
Try one of these:

Thank you for the list. We are hoping to find someone for less than $1000.

We will phone around with those specializing in RE but if anyone can recommend one of the RE folks on this list, it would be appreciated.

I purchased last year and used porelli law in west kelowna, cost was under $2,000. If you are looking for under $1000 you're best to use a notary public.

Just remember that if you use a Notary and something goes awry they cannot be held responsible whereas a Lawyer can.
(That's my understanding)

A notary will just witness your signature and that there was not a gun pointed at your head while doing so. A lawyer will actually read the document and give you advice before you sign the document.

Did you son get a mortgage? I ask because our bank provided a lawyer for $600 the last time we need one regarding the house and finances. They also provided one at the time that we purchased. (please note this is for Victoria) Bank was BMO.

Some noterys that deal in real estate know a thing or two from their experience and can inform you on stuff but no they are not binding themselves in any, contract, nor is the lawyer from what i understand

You'll not find anyone around here who will do a purchase/mortgage for under $1,000. If so, you'll get what you pay for...

Also, if you do find someone who does lowball, make sure they're not just quoting their fees.

All good thoughts. Thank you. He has decided to use a Vancouver based lawyer where they are more competitive in their rates than here (and because that is where they currently live and they were given a few leads from their mortgage broker).

I have had feedback that $1000 doesn't get much in the Central Okanagan........
