RCA TV problems..

Post by W105 »

we bought this tv (cheap) on boxing day 5 yrs ago...worked fine until recently...when I turn it on, I have sound and a picture, but within a few seconds the screen goes black but I still have sound...I then turn it off and on (do this about 5 times) and eventually the picture stays on and the TV works just fine...

I have googled it and tried some of the suggestions (unplug it, wait a bit, then plug it back in...also checked all the cords and everything is plugged in tight)

anybody have anything other ideas to fix this or is my cheapo TV dying because it's exactly that....cheap

I have no solution other than to say even if you can fix the issue, the cost is probably better spent buying a new cheapo tv.

has that college fix it thing happened yet? Also, there is an electronics repair store just off Cooper road between Enterprise and Hwy 97. Those guys fix everything including older stuff.

Cheaper to buy a new one. If it was inexpensive to start with it's not worth repairing.

Lucky it lasted 5 years. A friend is having similar issues with a 1 year old Samsung.

thanks for the comments :) if I recall we paid like $500 for it and looking more online it's probably a board of some kind which looks to be about $200..

so there really is no point on getting it fixed...what a piece of crap !! I remember the days when you bought something it lasted for decades...it's in the family room and it's hardly used anymore since my kid has moved out on his own...thinking I might as well go get one from the pawn shop but then again I might be buying a piece of crap again...

anybody have an opinion which type of TV is better...plasma or LED ??

I dont think they make plasma screens anymore....although there may be some out there at a store.

Samsung are generally a good tv, although, my samsung, about 3 or 4 years old, the ARC hdmi receptacle doesnt work anymore.

They don't make plazma any more and haven't for a few years.

Check out online but I like VIZIO's and bought a 4K 55" last year and love it.

Today's electronics is very similar to yesterday's mazda rotary engines. While they are working everything good, the moment problems start may as well throw it away.

forsure - but sometimes that old stuff is fun to tinker with. Usually when i try it ends up being damaged further and thats that. But fun to try :130:
