Canister Vacuum
My vacuum is dying. Since it's an investment, I'd like to hear your experiences.
I've had an upright for the last 20 years or so. It was an Amway vacuum and it was very good. I'd just rather not deal with anyone in Amway *shudders* plus their support sucked.
I'm wanting to go with a canister for the reason of mobility, I've had it with not being able to get under stuff, into corners, that sort of thing.
I'm leaning towards Dyson or Miele, based on reviews. I simply MUST have a power-head, I will not have a vacuum with a "turbo brush", that is, air-driven. My best friend cleans houses, and she has used a Dyson upright (mobility issues, though suction is good) and a Miele (she's the one who warned me about the "turbo brush" - suction is good but turbo doesn't work even half as well as a proper power-head). She has a Shark but says while it cleans well, it isn't solidly built and won't last.

Re: Canister Vacuum
I had Miele while living in Europe and it's a good one ... had a small canister version for about 4 years before I moved back to Canada ...
But, since I moved back it's been Dyson ... started with the canister and have just upgraded 6 months ago to the battery powered Animal v8 ... the suction has been good, all brush heads are electrically driven ... we don't have a huge house and as long as we aren't using "max" mode the battery will be able to go for a full floor before needing a recharge ...
The service from Dyson was great ... the beater on the canister died in the first 5 years and they paid for shipping to and from ... had it back in less than 2 weeks ...
I don't think you'd go bad with either brand ... I do feel Dyson is a better machine but you also pay more for it ...

Re: Canister Vacuum
Maybe that the vacuum over to the Vacuum Superstore.. he knows his stuff - perhaps someone did a trade in on a canister for a built in and you can get a great deal ( he warranties what he sells )
When I was there getting bags he had a Dyson

Re: Canister Vacuum
My daughter has a Dyson canister and the suction is fantastic; but the vacuum is very heavy and awkward to carry up and down stairs.
I have a Dyson V10 (stick) vacuum and absolutely love it. I can vacuum the entire house before the battery dies (which I couldn't do with my old Dyson V6). The suction is better with the V10 too (the old one was good, but the V10 is even better).
Check out the Dyson website, because sometimes the prices are better when you buy directly from them than what you can get in the stores.
Edit to add: If you already own a Dyson, they'll give you a discount when you buy a new one (provided you buy it directly from them).

Re: Canister Vacuum
I had a Dyson V8 and just recently replaced it with the V10. The only reason I replaced it, was so I could give the V8 to my dad. He's in his 70s and finds it difficult to haul around his heavy, old Panasonic vacuum (it's from the early 80s and still works!)
Very happy with the Dyson. It's easy to use, light, convenient...can come out into the driveway to clean up my vehicle, is a breeze to manage in the staircase etc. All the attachments work great as well!

Check the classifieds as there are a couple of interesting used ones for sale.

Re: Canister Vacuum
I will, thanks. I'm just a little leery of purchasing a used vacuum privately.
I still have 2 vacuum stores to check out - I probably would consider reconditioned as well.
I have had a number of people tell me (in person) not to go with Dyson, one of the reasons being the cost of shipping because they can't be repaired locally . . . bad experiences I guess.

Re: Canister Vacuum
I've been trying to convince my husband to rescue a bonded pair - I've come across a number in the past few years. Other moms my age are talking grandkids, not me. I want dogs. <3 But he's wary of risking his heart again, he says he's buried too many and can't take the grief anymore.MAPearce wrote:Get a dog .......

It absolutely is. But I'd take that pain for the joy that comes with having them.

We swear by our Dyson - love it. Having said that, it is a bit heavy and awkward. We have 4 cats and 2 dogs though.....
