Vehicle

Post by lindakind89 »

I am thinking of buying a 20 year old car in the U.S. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a mechanic that can do an out of province inspection. I went through one of these a few years ago and it was a disaster because the mechanic found everything he could wrong hoping that I would have him do the repairs. I am sure there are some trustworthy places around but where?

First off, if your bring a vehicle back from the US it needs a out of country inspection and there are very few places that are c tracked to do them. At one point only Canadian tire was the place you could do it. If you need an out of province, it’s not the tech it’s the inspection. They are extremely thorough and need to pass everything. The techs license is 9n the line so they follow the inspection 100%. Honestly it’s best to get someone to look at it, fix any items, then get the inspection. I have imported many vehicles from the US and never had any issues.

Ok , so you're buying a 1999 what ?

They stopped making classic cars in the 70's . Id say go " go back " , it's a trap ..

"Classic" is anything over 30 years old........providing that they meet all of the requirements in BC.

In your opinion.

Who would have ever thought that PEZ dispensers would be classics ?

They’re not. A collectable doesn’t make a classic.

Nowhere did the OP mention "classic"

My thoughts is any savings found by the purchase, could quickly be
off-set by getting said vehicle to pass it's mandatory inspections.

Just buy something that has spent it's life in South Western Canada.

Is that like the idea of buying a "California" car?

I mentioned Classic as a question ... My bad ???

I'm not up to speed on the tariff , duty or exchange rate thing but it seems to me that buying across the border doesn't make much sense IF the said tariff , duty or exchange thing isn't worth it .. It was a question , that's all..

Now , it it were a TRUE classic vehicle , like a 67 Chevy Caprice that would be a whole different story ..

I love those things ..

My wife, who was a service writer for many years, absolutely agrees with your comment. Her only addition is not only the tech's license is on the line, but the shop's license as well.
