Re: Life in southern Alberta
I'm a little late to this conversation...
I've lived in a few different places in Alberta (Banff, Calgary, Edmonton).
You might like Turner Valley. Small town. Black Diamond (another small town nearby) So you can get your basics there and it's close enough to Calgary that you can run big errands in the big city from time to time. Okotoks is close as well. Turner Valley will give you beautiful views of the mountains. Lots of farms and ranches in the area. Nice people. Bragg Creek and Kananaskis to the North. Lots of amazing trails and nature to enjoy. Even if you just want to stay inside, you'll probably have a lovely view of the Rockies. Winter is a bit longer, but you'll still get the Chinooks. It can be -15 one day and +15 the next. I spent one Christmas horseback riding in Turner Valley in a long sleeve T-Shirt.
Other nice areas to consider:
• Cochrane
• Priddis
• Bragg Creek/Redwood Meadows
• High River
• Black Diamond
• Okotoks
A bit more wintery but still nice:
• Devon
• Hinton
• Beaumont
