He stated that he didn't have much to gain. Define "much". I still do not think that neither he nor Jackebeit should be voting on development changes in areas where they have businesses. I am now leaning towards voting for Jackebeit.

You probably would have voted for Litke if he was still in the running since he threw his support with Jackebeit. Two peas in a pod. Some people are quite concerned about getting thrown off the gravy train. It's time this city starts living within its means.

You don't think either of them should be voting on the downtown upgrade and then you throw your support behind the one that actually operates a business smack inside the redevelopment area vs the one who does not?XT225 wrote: I still do not think that neither he nor Jackebeit should be voting on development changes in areas where they have businesses. Could you explain the logic behind that?
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

What exactly does this statement mean madmudder? Here's the problem I have with both Andrew J. and Vass. They sat on council for how many years? How many times did either one of them stand up and say ... "we're spending to much money"?madmudder wrote:It's time this city starts living within its means
Andrew seemed to be a follower and Vass - well let's just say he was very very good at saying ..."well I didn't know"? It is the job of our elected officials TO KNOW what is going on. I know I'm going to get blasted because Vass being the concerned councillor and citizen he is opted out of going to the UBCM convention, something I still disagree with especially since he knew he was going to be running for mayor. And really the cost of that compared to some of the other city blunders over the previous months is minimal. Hell - just look at costs within city hall. Why does it take an election for these guys to start saying how they are going to fix it. Actually they don't say how - they just use generalities. Unfortunately we really have only two individuals running for mayor .. the third will not make a difference. This is a very tough vote for the citizens of Penticton. Perhaps we should all remember those famous words of Charles de Gaul - "Politics is too serious a matter to be left to politicians". The time is NOW that we the citizens get involved and try and make an informed decision with regard to these two individuals. Not an easy choice by any means.

Litke has a record of being great at perching on that fence but little else. Would never vote for him.madmudder wrote:

Re: Penticton Election
Its a very tough decision for a lot of people. Both of these guys were part of the past mess for years. Now its time to decide which one is the lesser of the two _____. Yes, Andrew owns a business downtown (not the building) but he has the least to gain on improvements. I would expect that he will also leave the council chambers during the next vote. Vass doesn't own anything in the present improvement district but the next phases of it, he sure does. Won't be long til they reach his area. I was sincerely going to vote for Vass as I am against spending big bucks on the downtown at THIS time and he so often votes against spending. However when he suddenly was all for it and against the malls (that was a dumb comment of his), plus the rest of the city roads and infrastructure badly need improvements, he lost me right then and there.twobits wrote:

What would happen if NO ONE voted for any of the mayor candidates?

If that's the case I think they have to go mano-a-mano in a mud-wrestling cage match.

Re: Penticton Election
Yes, the need to vote for the lessor of two evils is always a tough one. Myself, I'm leaning away more and more from Vassilaki as I delve deeper into transcripts of council meetings and his decisions he has made. As far as not owning anything on Main Street, he owns both the element night club and more recently opened the new restaurant called The Cellar. Brent Madson also owns two buildings on Main Street.
I would also like to bring up media coverage thus far in our local papers. First, the picture of "two candidates meeting with airport authority", Well both Max and Andre were there as part of the organizations they are presently with not just "two candidates". I believe making it look like they were there as "candidates" is unfairly painting them as two individuals going above and beyond as candidates. NOT TRUE!
Secondly, in the western today had the same two people in the "Candidates in profile" in colour. Why? When all other profiles are in black and white?
Lastly, if you read Mr. Pictons profile, he, himself contradicts his filing papers and says that he IS living at Barefoot (not 117 lee ave) and he IS living with his common-law-wife Desiree. He must have just moved back I guess. I also find it hilarious that he talks about "team". If you ask any one of his tenants at Barefoot, they will tell you exactly the opposite. He should also maybe stop saying he's a successful entrapenuer until he can show that he a.) shows he has ownership b.) that he can prove he has turned a profit. That campground was not full except for Boonstock Weekend.

Re: Penticton Election
After supporting Litke last time and ending up being very disappointed I am torn on this one.
Jakubeit & Vassilaki were probably the only two councillors of the current group that I would have supported remaining on council - now we must chose one of them as Mayor.
Although I have been more of a fan of Jakubeit I can't forget that Vassilaki was the ONLY Councillor who voted against the Hockey dorm project - the rest went along with it. Vassilaki is also probably the only potential Mayor who will stand up to the City Manager - and this is important for many reasons. Basically I see Vassilaki as the lesser of the evils and wish Jakubeit had run for council instead.
For council I hoping to see Sentes & Katie R. replaced - not yet certain by who. Lot's of talk about Max Picton - I have no problem with his being young but most know he is heavily bankrolled by a wealthy developer who is likely the one calling all of the shots.
Don't know much about Campbell Watt or the PHA Manager who is running but worried about potential for chamber vs. tourism conflicts.
Anyone know when the forums are going to be yet?

Re: Penticton Election
I hope this does not come across as me targeting John Vass because this is not my intent, however I can't find the answer to my question on the Civic Elections or City of Penticton Website. I see that Darryl Sanders who is running for councillor has been nominated by John Vassilaki. (Although the spelling of Vassilaki is different than on John's papers - they do have the same residential address though - I assume it is just a typo) My question is can a candidate who is running for mayor nominate someone else to run for councillor? If anyone can clarify this I would appreciate it.

I see Max Pictons sub-conscious got the better of him. His signs look like CAUTION signs. A subliminal message from this candidate??? I just hope everyone heeds his warning!! LOL

Re: Penticton Election
I will be voting for the mayorilty candidate with the smallest signs (and no, not the convict). He is also more of a team player and that's crucial. Worthwhile looking at the application forms and seeing who nominated who. Very interesting discovery Southy and you weren't critical..you were "just sayin".

Norm - not sure what your deal is with Max but it has become obvious you don't like him. Personally I think his signs are great. Not sure I'm going to vote for him, but I do give him and his team credit for being creative in their signage. It does stand out - and sometimes that is all it takes to make a difference. So Norm ... what is your deal with Max - I'm sure we are all a little curious.NormCheers wrote:I see Max Pictons sub-conscious got the better of him. His signs look like CAUTION signs.
