Yes, how dare she have a successful business! And shares a last name with the previous mayor, the nerve!

And you, apparently, are one of the ignorant voters that won't vote for a candidate because someone else is supporting a candidate, because you don't approve of their last name by marriage, because they have a successful business, and because their time management skills are good (and yours apparently are not, since you cannot fathom how she will allocate her time).

So, that leaves unsuccessful candidates, those candidates who do not have any measure of support from successful people, those candidates whose name you cannot connect to anyone else, and candidates who have nothing going on in their lives so that you can be convinced that they will be able to spend every moment on their city council job.

Good criteria!

Perhaps next election, you can use the "dart throw" method for selecting your choices....that makes as much sense.

Blah...Blah...Blah....maybe she'll provide you with an alternate $11.00 job so you'll have more choices to your career path.

Ms. Gray may not have time to attend the meetings, but at least she'll have time to pick up the checks!

And that's enough for the ForKelowna crowd. They do what they're told.

And you are following ForKelowna perfectly. No free thinking on your end....you just make your non-voting decision based in who they support. No use thinking for yourself, eh?

Good response. What I would expect from someone who can't think for themselves.

Spoken like a true ForKelowna member. Isn't that what you guys are looking for? People that can't think for themselves. In case you haven't notIced, that's lesliepaul you're talking to, not Basran.

Another great response......unfortunately it doesn't make any sense. Nice try though.

Every candidate is "endorsed" by someone. It's just a matter of wheather you vote for a cnadidate that is endorsed by a group who's in it for the community as a whole, or a candidate who's in it to line the pockets of about 6-8 people, and who cares about the rest of us. Now go to the polls and pick one!

How interesting that you deny the rights of individuals to agree with each other if they think a certain way. There are more ways of being community minded than assuming whatever it is you assume about that group. Really, how is an RV dealer with his business in a different city going to "line his pockets"? How is a guy that has an sound company going to "line his pockets"?

Perhaps there is an interesting answer to "how is a union that negotiates with the city and has their staffing levels set by the city going to line their pockets?" though. Just look at what is going on with the union that has donated hundreds of thousands to one of the municipal parties and the recordings of a deal they made with one of the politicians in that party. Very community minded of them!

If you mean the general population of Kelowna by the comment "you guys", then you are correct. That is the only group I belong to.

And, if you think that the general population of kelowna thinks like you or, for that matter, thinks alike, you are incorrect.

The fact is, all of the general population of Kelowna belongs to the general population...by default.

There are many different opinions out there and you do not have a monopoly on "correct" ones.

So no, I did not mean what you have stated. I meant those who are so fearful of anyone having different opinions than theirs, which you appear to be by your statements.

The reality is that Shepherd did not get elected last time. Basran did get elected last time. That may reverse this time or it may not. However, it will likely be close and to dismiss close to half of the voters as being dumb, or unable to form their own opinion, or not informed is an ignorant statement regardless of whom you support.

I believe that whomever wins the mayoralty contest will be honestly supported by a group of citizens who feel they are acting appropriately for their community. It is disappointing that the incorrect rhetoric applied to any group of supporters will be used as justification for not even considering some candidates qualifications. But, voters are certainly allowed to use any method of choice they wish....even the dart throwing method. The key thing is that people get out and vote, don't make excuses for not voting, and instead of tearing down people who wish to be involved in local politics, whether as candidates or supporters, get out and support and work for someone whom you see to be a viable option.

Some of the changes that have occurred in Kelowna were first on the table with the previous council....they just did not come to fruition until this council....although a lot of back backslapping and high fives and taking credit for everything came from Basran, DeHart, Given and Singh. Were other important development items side stepped by the previous council....absolutely. Thank god the likes of Angela Reid Nagy and Michele Rule were eviscerated from council. I just about had my fill of green this, green that from those two and several others. For that immense improvement to council I have to thank ForChange.

Sharon Sheppard herself cannot shut things down here....a strong, NEW group of councilors that understand stagnation is a death knell for young people here can improve our community immensely and Sheppard should be on board. The unfortunate part of what's left of our current council is that the 3 WEAK LINKS may possibly be back. Those 3 have exhibited flip flopping on issues like I've never seen before. If you do not have an answer on something......keep your mouth shut until someone SMARTER than YOU can educate you.....its very simple.

Being on council is much like being a police officer...."to protect and to serve".....you should not be there so you can line your pockets or enhance your own personnel business interests or think of yourself as "glamorous". Many issue solutions will not be popular with every one and that is a way of life. The day you think you can please everyone is the day you please no one.
