Present Mayor and Council

Post by canvan »

What do Peachland residents feel about having the same Mayor and Council again? Personally i would like change, who would you like to return to Council.

Clean house and get a new council in there and hopefully Ernie Hurd gets back in - and hopefully people won't hold grudges against a man over a resignation and speaking out on something he believed in....

Thank goodness that Terry Condon is running again. He is by far the most valuable and sensible member of Peachland Council. Some new blood would be good, but generally current members get re-elected based on name recognition. So many voters really don't understand where members of Council stand on issues. Let's hope that there are some good choices on the ballot list.

Obvious Robin you have only been on the smile and kiss the baby side of Condon.
I've seen the side that when things aren't going to his liking his turns and retreats. He must be cut from the same cloth as the mayor, plays the "I wasn't aware of that I'll have to look into this and get back to you" card.
We've seen the plays of this council and have proven that a change in the line up is well over due.

Clean house, I wouldn't mind ernie back , at least he spoke up and was hurd.
All the others hide behind staff and the mayor, or should I say are hid behind them

It's to bad that the senior staff weren't up for election.
Half the problem with council is the separation of power between the two.
Even with a perfect lineup of councillors we will still have the same problems as before until the control is placed back in the hands of our elected representatives.

We pay Elsie Lemke more than ten times the remuneration that we give to members of Council. So the Chief Administrative Officer IS running the business of Peachland. The job of members of Council is to understand the issues, listen to the public and then direct staff to get on with the job. The problem is that they are not very good at listening.
As a matter of interest, if there was an election for the job of CAO, you can bet that there would be a long list of applicants!

When council is only told what staff wants to share they are in the dark. When a resident asks questions about a matter and they are unaware and not authorize to know more then there is a problem.
We vote for representation for the community through council members so having them in the dark defeats the purpose of having representation.
Why bother having councilors at all if they are unable to look into matters without senior staff authorizing it.

I agree with you Slick Lizzy.
The Council agenda always seems to be based 100% on issues that are legally necessary or ones that concern staff. We need to see more debate on issues brought forward by members of the public. We need Council members who are proactive rather than reactive.

Who really runs this town anyway? Is it the mayor and council or is it the city manager.

Does council ever get the real story or only the view that the current CAO wants them to see? Are reports cleansed to her approval before they are submitted to council?

Why would the puppet master want to have it any other way?
It wouldn't be a worthy performance if the movements were out of sync.
