Questions, concerns and comments re: Elections forum
Another year, yet another election, this time local. In years past we've offered more structure in the temporary election forums, however this year I'm leaving it more of a free-for-all. We'll see how it goes.
As usual, I'd like to caution you to keep a civil tone in your posting. Politics is a hot topic, but please try to keep your cool.
One thing to note, people tend to be very insulting about politicians. This is not much of a problem internationally (remember what we said about Bush), federally, or even provincially, but on a local level please be mindful of what you say when making personal remarks about the candidates. Attack their record (or lack of one), don't attack them on a personal level.
So there you have it. Have fun!

No, that's NOT an English cucumber in my pocket. I'm just so happy they've all decided they want to keep their jobs just a scant few months after they all whined about how overworked and underpaid they are.
Perhaps someone hit them on the head and reminded them it's the easiest paycheque (and in some cases only paycheque) many of them have ever received.

Always remember that "politics" is derived from two Greek words: "Poli" meaning many and "tics" meaning blood-sucking parasites!
So I love the Okanagan but it's a place best enjoyed from atop a very large pile of $100 bills. - Spocky

Re: Questions, concerns and comments re: Elections forum
Actually:
The word politics comes from the Greek word Πολιτικά (politika), modeled on Aristotle's "affairs of the city", the name of his book on governing and governments, which was rendered in English mid-15 century as Latinized "Polettiques".[4] Thus it became "politics" in Middle English c. 1520s (see the Concise Oxford Dictionary). The singular politic first attested in English 1430 and comes from Middle French politique, in turn from Latin politicus,[5] which is the latinisation of the Greek πολιτικός (politikos), meaning amongst others "of, for, or relating to citizens", "civil", "civic", "belonging to the state",[6] in turn from πολίτης (polites), "citizen"[7] and that from πόλις (polis), "city".[8] Wikipedia

It definitely is a society /community all in it's own where they look after themselves more so than those they are elected to look after.

Sad that people think that.
Maybe try to elect some people that you don't feel that way about?

If someone that actually cared about the people more than the paycheque/pension they will receive we would be able to. Even the most caring individual that gets elected is soon altered when they enter office. Had a family member that was an MP in Manitoba for a single term. He declined to put his name on the ballot for another.

The ultimate form of arrogance . Question , "What do you see as Kelowna 's future 20 years from Now ?"
Walter - I won't be here , so I do not know , [implying he will be deceased .
Cal - wishee washee and typical politicak answer.
Shannon - " I'm surprised that noone knows about Kelowna's future plan " [ She's basically stating that she has the only plan ]
Let's look at the past 6-9 years shall we. City hall wages increased just after an increase in property taxes and other fees is publicly announced.
OH BUT THERE WILL BE MORE DOG PARKS AND WE WILL SAVE THE BUNNIES . Oh and the downtown development or renewal will never happen .
This administration has put in place water restrictions while increasing building permits . They say we do not have enough water , yet they increase the amount of residences , THAT IS NOT GOOD PLANNING . Just the water alone for the patio's , slabs and foundations that would be used in the concrete is too high .
SO BUILD A HOUSE OR HAVE DRINKING WATER , WHICH WOULD YOU PREFER ?.
We need a new reservoir and water plan , A REAL PLAN

"A lie stated over a long enough period of time, becomes the truth" Adolf Hitler. But I say , "A half truth is a lie and there is always two sides to a story, but only one truth"

Isn't that a regional function rather than just a city function?
